Asda is this a con job

How can Asda get away with this con job
Asda Mobile have changed suppliers from EE to Vodaphone and you have had to send for a new sim card to do this. When it was EE I had a PAYG option where I paid £10 with no limit on how long it took to use the the £10 up as long as you used it at least once every 120 days.
I had problems changing over online so I went on the chat line for help and I asked if they could do the swap for me and the answer was yes
This morning I checked the phone and it said I had been charged £10 off my old balance for what appears to be a monthly bundle I was not told nor I did not ask or want this type of deal. As I was not offered the same type of deal surely I should have been offered the £20 balance in the old account back.
I went back on the chat line to complain that it was not the same as before but they tried to convince me it was a better deal because the calls (4p) were a lot cheaper but of course you will now have to pay for a monthly bundle .
As a ninety year old it is not a better deal for me because I will not make many 4p a minute calls.
What narks me is surely if they can not supply the same deal as I had before I should have a chance to have my balance back. I am in actual fact being forced to buy somthing I dont want, I could get a better deal for me elsewere.

Typically PAYG providers do not offer credit refunds so realistically you were never going to get a refund when you left. Use up the balance and then go elsewhere. It's not a "con job" but perhaps one of the perils of PAYG (and in particular carrying a balance on PAYG.)alankearn said:How can Asda get away with this con job

Cancel (i.e. get your PAC code), get a refund (of the £10 bundle they hoodwinked you with), and switch to giffgaff or another provider. (giffgaff operate on the O2 network, and you can add airtime credit to use as you wish - send a text or make a call every few months to keep your number active).Jenni x0

What's the point of cancelling and getting a refund? They'll lose whatever credit they have (and the £10 came from their balance, not a debit card.) That's rather silly.Jenni_D said:Cancel (i.e. get your PAC code), get a refund (of the £10 bundle they hoodwinked you with), and switch to giffgaff or another provider. Far better to use the balance first and then port out.0 -
So use the £20 - that would have lasted them months (if not longer) - in 2 months on the £10 per month bundle then port out? Yeah, that sounds reasonable. 🙄y3sitsm3 said:

I didn't say he had left, I said he would never have gotten a refund when he left regardless of what happened.BigSpenderLittleSpender said:y3sitsm3 said:

Appears that calls are 4p a minute anyway, without adding a bundle

No idea why they charged you £10?0 -
Well leaving the credit behind sounds totally reasonable....Jenni_D said:

Where did I say or even suggest that? Please show me ... wait , you can't - because I didn't. 🙄y3sitsm3 said:

There is no other alternative, so it was clearly implied.Jenni_D said:

Go on then, what's your suggestion?
