  • I have still not taken a LFT - because as far as I am aware - neither myself or my wife have been infected
Is that the correct thing (not) to do ?
That’s entirely up to you 🙂

No. You can be infected and have absolutely no symptoms and be spreading the virus. If you have no symptoms how would you be aware you were infected or not without doing a test?

Well there must be 100s of test kits sitting in cupboards unused and now we have a shortage.

My son and i have both tested positive this last week. He had  a PCR test and now cannot return to work until he has  2seperte lateral flow tests 24 hours apart which are negative. He cant get any at all. several friends have tried to get him them from a chemist and despite having a collection code they say they have none. I have been trying to order some online for the last 5 days without success.
Meanwhile he has an employer on his back asking when he is returning to work.

Really annoyed today as well as a mate has just has a PCR positive result and yet his 18 year old son who has had no jabs has told his dad that he is NOT isolating or taking a test, says he is not being dictated to and will carry on as normal.
It has made my blood boil, if that was my house I would be telling him that if he goes out he is not getting back in. Why have so many young people so little regard for others.

Did you and your son, get tested on a work required basis or was it purely your choice to so do?
Whatever - you should both be congratulated for doing the right thing
I wonder how many people are self testing - getting posative results and ignoring the risk and going to work all the same ?

Son went for a PCR test as he had symptoms and he knew he would need proof for work.  I got symptoms 2 days later so did a lateral flow test, I'm retired so no need for proof for work.  I didn't follow up with a PCR as it took a 90 mile round trip and 4 hours (including 2 hours in  a queue onsite) to get sons PCR so I wasn't doing that.

I would have thought not many.
if you are going to ignore the result then why would you bother?

Agreed. No point testing if you aren’t go to listen to the result.

That said I suspect that with the new rules of release from isolation when you have covid if you have negative on day 6 and 7, I wonder if some people aren’t testing and just ending isolation on day 7.

if I get a code from the nhs website to collect a box from the chemist, does that guarantee I will get it or not?
I trawled 6 local pharmacies, including Boots with my code; none had any in stock and none were prepared to put any by for NHS staff.
You would expect them to supply nhs buildings directly with tests to give out to staff.
And other frontline staff, care workers, teachers, social care.

I work in a vaccine centre based in a community hall. We have to source our own tests.

Anyone else had emails thanking them for ordering lateral flow tests when you haven't ordered any? Twice in last fortnight had them. I am just getting over covid but can't see that being a reason.

On another note. I went the full 10 days before I got a negative flow test. Triple jabbed
