Definitely poor product support from Smeg, but having to manualy defrost isn't a death sentence for a freezer, surely?
No it isn't a death sentence, never suggested it was! Been doing it with my wife's hairdryer for six months! Still not happy that I paid for an auto defrost fridge and now haven't got one! Thanks anyway for the inciteful comment.
If you are minded to keep it and it can't be fixed a handheld steam cleaner is much quicker than a hairdryer to defrost a freezer.

Can you not give it away to someone who is willing to defrost it?  At least this will keep it out of landfill.  Our local facebook pages have free items listed.

I bought a Samsung American fridge freezer in 2006. It is still going strong.

Your thread title is: "Smeg Fridge/Freezer - landfill after six years!" so unless your talking about another fridge/freezer you more than "suggested" it was a death sentence...

I didn't take the title of the thread to literally mean sending it to landfill,  but if I had paid that amount of money I would expect it to last a lot longer. Although it is not a big problem to manually have to defrost it, having to do it every 2 weeks would certainly be a problem and I don't think it would be very energy efficient for it to be frosting up that quickly. let alone having food going in and out of the freezer so often. I would certainly want to take the complaint further.

Well it helps them a little by steering them towards a better brand - whereas your comment was absolutely useless in comparison :)

Don't know why but that's what they said in the original post.

Agreed. I have an auto defrost freezer now, but prior to this seem to remember only defrosting every 6 months or more.
