Chargeback on debit card for criminal builder

If it was paid by debit card the bank will be happy to do a chargeback if you're eligible but as I said, it doesn't sound like you paid by debit card. No "criminal" tradesperson worth their salt would take a card payment.0 -
If you paid him by cheque, cash or directly into his account via the account number/sort code then your come-back will be limited.
Can you clarify how paid him?0 -
I paid him from my online banking, and he was standing over me when I did it. He is a criminal and I am frightened he will come back0

No chargeback, no s75.0 -

I already have a harassment order out against him, and a crime number, but trading standards are investigating him, as he is known to them0

Now the building work has started leaking water, obviously we have been told a wall should have drainage holes, ours has not, plus the job isn't finished, and we will have to claim off our insurance.
I have made a complaint to trading standards and because the builder kept coming back for more money, I had to let the police know, and he is forbidden to come to my door or ring me. The money that I paid out was my retirement lump sum and it was for building work that my home needs to keep it in good condition.
Could I get my money back through Section 75 Chargeback, has anyone tried this.
I paid it into his personal account, but I had no choice as he wouldn't even move the rubbish or tarmac the driveway. It has left us with absolutely nothing to repair the house or repair the job that he messed up.
Rather than spending time arguing on this site about whether or not you're stuffed (which only makes you feel worse, obviously), that'd be something that may reap better rewards for you.
I'm a great believer in not giving up before you've tried everything. I have successfully used Section 75 in the past when a credit card purchase turned out to be a load of rubbish - it did take some time but it was worth it - but your case is not eligible since you paid by bank transfer. It doesn't mean that all is lost. And you're right, you're not stuffed yet.
Do start your Financial Ombudsman application as soon as possible though because they have a backlog and these things usually do take time so it may take longer. But if you don't give up, you could very well get something back. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. And did you even read the OP's post? What is this about you using S75? We've already ascertained that the OP made a bank transfer, they're not covered by S75.0 -
I have sent a letter and got a reply on Saturday, to say they couldn't help, so will probably have to see if the trading standards will prosecute and get compensation from him, through the courts.
We did have to spend money on a drain specialist who came out and did a report.
Thank you0 -

You might want to start doing that now, although bear in mind these people know what they're doing, and are quite good at evading enforcement action by the courts.0
