PAYG sim card recommendations for a Yale alarm system

Can anyone recommend a PAYG sim card to put into my Yale home alarm system please? Ideally it shouldn't have a top up requirement. Also, ideally it shouldn't need activating using another mobile phone as three send a text message to activate their sim cards.

For those of us not familiar with such a system, what usage requirements, presumably only mobile data, will the SIM have..?

I'm not sure what you mean about activating by text, three, etc...

which unit needs the sim card.

I looked at  HSA-6500 and that uses voice/SMS also may need 2G which rules out 3.

That's the one I've got. I take it other networks support 2G?

I may be wrong but as far as I know, sim cards usually need activating. This is often done by placing it inside a mobile phone and receiving a code via. text message. This then gets entered into an app/website. However, I'm wondering if there are any providers that don't require this.

Usage requirements are only sending a text message every 60 days. Unless the alarm goes off!
  • Do you have a mechanism using the alarm system to verify that the sim has been activated? Putting it in a mobile is obviously an easy way of doing this.

The RWG sim uses EE so has 2G (until 2025), AFAIR just needed an email to request activation, no interaction with the sim required. Also has a free tier that may well be sufficient for your needs.

I do have a phone I could insert the sim into first to activate it. I guess I just picked the wrong provider first and should have picked another one! Thanks all.
