So sorry to hear this. I hope you find some sensible & not extortionate solutions. You have however reminded me why I hate getting jobs done.

I am trying to find a new floor fitter. FIL has offered his help, I just think it's unreasonable to expect a family member in their very late 60s to spend a week on their knees doing a task we have a budget to have a professional complete. I don't have the skills to DIY.

Hope you find someone. Good on FIL (but I agree about paying someone if you can in the circumstances!) Good luck!7

Your fil might actually want to do it, families will often pull together in times like these. Big hugs to you and your family.7 -

Oh no, that's sounds absolutely horrific. Good to hear that FIL is offering to help - even if you don't want to use him, he's there as a last resort. Oh, ed. I am so sorry to learn of your builder woes.......
I was actually coming on to tell you how much you and fam. edinburgher were in my thoughts today......
We as a fam went to a NT property - which we last visited (as a couple), on the very day that your DD1 made her first appearance into the world 🥰 I remember it so well, and yet I had no idea, at that time, what my future held, and what change was on the horizon...........
Naturally, visiting today as a family of 3 was sooooo much different, but also, soooooooo much fun!
But also, we found a quiet spot in the garden to munch our picnic lunch. Not too much footfall past 'our' bench, and we were enjoying the view over this particular 'room', when....... a couple walked past.......... I recognised the chap instantly as a 'former sportsman'. I knew I had seen him on TV in a 'pundit' capacity........ Initially I thought cricket, and DH agreed, but then I was thinking and thinking and thinking.......... and I knew it was Rugger......... It's taken a concerted goggle research, on return home, but the verdict is in. Sir Ian McGeechan.
Fingers crossed a flooring solution appears - whomsoever completes the task.......

Ed, how horrendous! So the builder just decided to break his contract
he hasn't charged you for work he's refusing to do, has he? And the thing about the lights! It drives me crazy when a builder gets lazy and I don't have the ability to switch lights in hallways on and off where I want. I really hope it doesn't interfere with your weekend too badly. 2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
How utterly frustrating on all levels. We have always had a carpet runner until this house and I am seriously thinking we would be better going back to that as it is much better at catching dust and much quieter. I was looking at some ideas only yesterday. If the finishing of the wooden flooring is a problem these are some good looking options in this article. Regarding the removal of the light, he needs to be asked to reinstate or reduce his bill by the cost of a competent electrician to finish for him.
When my nightmare build took place at the old house it took several months to resolve issues though. There is a balance in the stress stakes, but you don't need me to tell you thatSave £12k in 2026 #2 I have banked £865.15 in January against a £10k target The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here
