While you are waiting for the Forum team to implement your suggestion, could you not apply filters to your email to separate out mails from "Notifications Postmaster", thus returning visibility of the rest of your email, and further, separating new thread notifications from the others?

Untick the email option, use pop up only, then click on your notification bell to check through everything that way.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

If you go to the Budgeting and Bank Accounts board, you can click the notifications bell to customise which notifications you get. Picking the 'discussions' option will mean you only get notifications for new threads rather than replies on that board, which sounds like it will go a long way to achieving what you would like.
