Yep - don't what i was thinking when I typed it.. meant you had better have nothing 'in flight' or continuous payment on it.noh said:
A debit card can not have "a balance on it" so I am not sure what you mean by "But be sure you have a zero balance on it"soulsaver said:
Incorrect, for OP's Nationwide, at least. You can say you don't have a DC. But be sure you have a zero balance on it if you do have one (lost, shredded or expired) or it may stop the switch.jackieblack said:
Yes, it does ask for the 16 digit number from your debit card, I had to run around looking for mine as I never use the physical card so don’t keep it in my purse.outoftheviciouscircle said:I am looking to switch my hsbc account to nationwide using the current £125 switch incentive. It is a joint account and neither myself or my husband have a debit card for the account (we use it just for bill payments). We were issued one when we opened the account however. We have no payments linked to the debit card so do I need to order a new card in order to complete the switch or can I put we don’t have a debit card. Thanks in advance
The Nationwide switching form asks for the debit card number of the account to be switched. If there is no active debit card on the account then you can selelect that option. There is a warning that if there is an active debit card and the number is not given then the switch may be delayed.

Thank you everyone. I finally got a reply from nationwide who confirmed I will need the cards to switch2

I think it's to do with established recurring debit card transactions that were set up from the debit card in question. I suppose it's useful if there are problems but some banks etc don't insist on it. If you have the 16 figure number, the expiry date and the 3 figures on the back you can manage without the physical card.0

Well it won't be the first time first time Nationwide CS gets it wrong... unless for some reason they mean you personally or someone in similar circumstances? Are you already a member?outoftheviciouscircle said:Thank you everyone. I finally got a reply from nationwide who confirmed I will need the cards to switch
