Safe router disposal

I was hounded by Virgin for ours. I was going to leave it for the buyers who were going to connect to Virgin but they said I would be charged £40 if I didn’t return it. It wasn’t even a new box.Even once it was returned, with their tracking and confirmed by their chat staff, I received several aggressive text messages and emails threatening the charge. And saying they would come and collect it, despite having moved out! They finally said that’s just what they do but I asked to be removed from any further communication. I’m so glad I don’t need to deal with them again.0

I'm with BT and they've always requested return of the old router because they can then recycle them to make newer better ones. Why not contact your supplier and ask them what to do? Or ask them to send you a postage label so it won't cost you to send back. Why would you want to 'make it unusable'? I don't get the point of that.littlemoney said:Recently with my current supplier I have changed to fibre and needed a new router which was supplied. How do I safely dispose of the old router in that are there any security information/access details on the old router. Do I just hit with a hammer to make it unusable. Is this possible? Sugestions welcome please. Thanks.
I've never had any trouble. Just exchanged the old one for a new one. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. These aren't aluminium cans. Chances are they'll end up in a landfill in some third world country after the fractiont of a gram of precious metal (gold usually) has been stripped.MalMonroe said:

Before you dispose, make sure the isp has no interest in it at all. There's a caluse on most ISPs that state that the equipment belongs to them and they may charge £50 for failure to return equipment after you're done.
Get an OK from your previous ISP before you dispose of it.

The 12v power supply are really good. Much better than the crap ones supplied with unbranded led strips. To get an equivalent quality 12v 2a dc power supply that's QC'd and meets BSI standards you'll be paying £15+ for.fenwick458 said:If the ISP don't want it then sell it on ebay, they sell for £20 average
The router box is good for someone whose damaged their box and needs one fast from a local person on gumtree.1
