With me, it depends what the 'thing' is. I would have paid £7 for the sweet if I had wanted a sweet, and probably would have paid for the parking too, because I enjoy eating out.
I would not (for example) have paid £10 to go to the cinema as there are very few films I want to see that much.
I certainly wouldn't willingly pay a fiver for a pint of beer.
I think it depends what you, personally, feel it is worth spending money on.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton3 -
There are so many ways to enjoy life in retirement, including using vouchers and the Meerkats , for example. We've had to count the pennies all our lives, but now we can treat ourselves a little. I still want value form money though. Not paying to park when you needed a ten minute walk meant others were waiting for you. A bit ill-mannered, really.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

I couldn’t believe after reading all these posts that there was so much of my husband and myself in them.
We eat out regularly, breakfast or lunch rather than evening. When I first met him I found out he was huge on the “good old vfm” as he calls it. It took me a long time to make him understand that, according to someone I used to know who owned a small restaurant, the actual cost of the food is only about a quarter of the price of the dish. He loves his puddings and doesn’t worry so much about the cost as the quality. If you find the worlds best cheesecake on your plate and want to lick the plate but are too polite to do so then it is worth every penny.
When we retired 13 years ago he got a lump sum and decided to kit us out with new appliances as most of ours were old. He bought a full sized fridge and separate freezer, under the counter freezer, dishwasher and washer-dryer. They are all Miele. Still going strong and they’ll see us out
He would try to find free parking as well but since I have a bad knee and sometimes find walking difficult he will park as close to our destination as possible “to save my legs”.4
