Friend has forgotten password on her W10 PC
She is considering format/reinstall, but wondered if there were any photos on there.
Is it possible to remove the HDD and see if there's anything of value on there

Local account or MS account? If local, you can reset it:If MS account, log into your MS account via something like Hotmail from any other device and follow the forgotten password process.Failing this, yes you can remove the drive.

She didn't actually say but I think it was the password to access the actual PC - that's a local account isn't it? 🤔Neil_Jones said:Local account or MS account?

In 10 you can have either with a very strong (effectively mandated) push towards and MS account. If the machine was online when it was set up it will almost certainly be an MS account as the option to go for local account is removed (it is effectively a failsafe option that only kicks in if the machine is not online).

Could that be a BIOS password? If so then you can reset this but it may require opening up the machine and changing a jumper temporarily.J_B said:

I read this web site earlier today that has some amusing examples of children knowing their parents passwords.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0
