No matter what I do, I can't seem to complete my purchase via Musicmagpie!

Options
Since my old  phone gave up the ghost, I have tried to purchase a refurbished model without success, mainly because I'm away from home and need to to use click and collect. Oddly, Argos sell such phones but they are home delivery only (!) yet it seems I can buy one on Ebay and get it delivered to Argos, mad or what?

Anyway I received the latest MSE email today and spotted the link to get cheap mobiles, followed it up and found what I wanted at the right price. Result? Well I thought so but it wasn't to be.

My chosen phone was from Musicmagpie who do click and collect, so I followed the link which took me to Ebay. I chose the model I wanted (10 in stock) and went through the normal process to order and pay with PayPal. So far so good. I made the payment and even received a confirmation email for my purchase from PayPal but the odd thing was that, after making the payment,  it took me back to Ebay with a message saying "continue to PayPal to complete your purchase or choose another payment option "  which I had just done.

Checked with PayPal who tell me the transaction was cancelled by the seller, no reason given. Sent an email to Musicmagpie but no answer yet.

Also, my balance at PayPal is not the issue so what went wrong, none seems to be able to answer that!

Any ideas?

  • I've had that before and the transaction ended up going through. The error appeared via mobile but not by laptop and I ended up with duplicate orders.

Give it 24 hours, then try again, perhaps via another device.

In some way I hope it doesn't go through as I tried again and could end up with 2, but PayPal assure me it won't!
    Mine was from a tablet.
    Thanks

  • If mm advertised these 10 phones on multiple platforms, it could be that the stock was already sold out and ebay was not up to date

Are any  similar items for sale on Music Magpie's own site? They do sometimes use eBay and also Amazon to sell items.
However, they DO normally update their websites as soon as items are sold/out of stock.

As far as I'm aware, Music Magpie have never offered click and collect as they operate out of a warehouse in Cheshire - but they do post things free of charge when you order direct from their website.

Something may be amiss with their website as I've not only been buying from them but also selling to them for a number of years and their website has never directed me to eBay, or anywhere else. That is very strange. I do trust Music Magpie though and recommend them highly. Even if there's been a mistake with quantities or payments, everything will be sorted. Once they sent me the wrong CD and when I contacted them they just refunded the full cost immediately and let me keep the one they'd sent. (Whether I liked it or not!)(It was okay)

Argos has an outlet on eBay as well and you can often get new Argos goods on eBay cheaper than you can on the Argos site. So yes, they do offer click and collect via eBay. Retailers get up to all kinds of things that they don't always publicise. eBay also has a 'brand outlet' link to click at the left hand top corner of their website.

MM will respond to your email asap, as long as you have supplied your order number - or you can always phone them on 0333 555 0101.

Thanks MalMonroe for your response which was very helpful, especially the phone number which I couldn't find on their site!

Still no response to my web query, via their website, so I shall call them.

The link to buy, which came from the MSE site took me to Ebay and as well as being a good deal, they do offer click and collect through that platform.

I originally tried Argos via Ebay but it seems for refurbished phones click and collect is not an option, although it suggests it is.

    Thank
  • For your information, MM no longer take phone calls on that number and rely on an online chat session which is where I'm heading next!
  • I give up with MusicMagpie, despite all me efforts and a promise to keep me updated, I haven't heard from them for a week. I offered them the option of calling me if the IT people wanted more information or needed me to do a test but apparently they aren't allowed to speak to customers - what madness.
    Going to buy elsewhere now!
