It is shocking how difficult it can be to get seen. Not much has been happening here (apart from spending as little as possible) so I've been attempting to frugalise my meals. Lunch is often soup so that's quite cheap/easy to make. To change it up I may have a spinach omelette or on the weekends I'll quite often have a salad with whatever needs using up or a hard boiled egg. In the mornings I've been having random bits (pitta bread/cheese/fruit/veggies) or I've been making wholemeal drop scones.50g wholemeal plain flour with half a tsp baking powder30g any dried fruitEnough water to mix to dropping consistency.Mix all together in a bowl/jug and place spoonfuls in a greased frying pan, cook until bubbles start popping and then flip to brown on the other side. This mix makes four pancakes (roughly).Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3651

They are nice and simple and very easy. I find drop scones are often too sweet, especially if you are already adding dried fruit, so just took out the sugar completely. I then wondered how they would be with just water instead of milk. They taste absolutely fine. I had some this morning and then in the pan cooked up a few chunks of leftover tinned pineapple and added it to some diced banana. It made for a lovely breakfast with a coffee.

I made some this morning as DP has taken some time of work. Very sadly his father has passed away and so I wanted to make something for breakfast before we headed over to start sorting things out. We've been there all day so my planned dinner (gammon) will be done tomorrow and tonight we'll have beef ragu from the freezer with some egg pasta. I'm mostly trying to keep things easy and help out DP and his sister to sort through things.

Sorry to hear about DP's father, hope you're both OK and his sister.

Thanks @nannygladys It's a lot to sort through, but thankfully it's not far to go. It was expected as he was rather poorly and didn't want to go to hospital so I think everyone had mentally prepared, well as much as you can for this sort of thing. Today we're going over to see what's in the loft and possibly look in the cellar (though the stairs down need to be checked out first) and then nothing else will happen until the weekend.

When my mum and then step dad died I decided I wouldn't leave a house full of 'stuff', as they had loads to clear and the majority was unwanted by anyone other than them, so I had a good clear out, I don't want my dds having that amount to go through and dispose of. So I haven't really got a lot of 'stuff' and use what I do have, I do have a few personal bits but I don't buy ornaments or bits anymore, a nice vase of flowers or some special chocs are my things of choice now!! Oh and good coffee.
Oh be careful going into the cellar and attic, but you may find some really interesting things in them. I had my dgf indentured papers and a few other bits, one day I will get around to some ancestry sleuthing!!
Take care of yourselves, it still comes as a shock even if it's expected and grieving can hit at unexpected times.£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund1 -
My Mum had a lot of stuff we needed to go through when she passed away last year. It was difficult as most of it was stuff we had no interest in but she loved. I think striking that balance between things you enjoy and things which just clutter up a place needs to be balanced. This week has been a bit of a blur as I also had my orthopaedics appointment for my knee. I've had a steroid injection (again) to see if that helps and I'll be seen again in a couple of months. The last one did very little in terms of pain relief but the doctor wanted to give it a go as (his words) "I know what I'm doing a bit more than a GP". He's asked me to keep a pain diary to see how my levels change.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650

I do hope you get some relief from the pain you're experiencing and if not they hurry up and try something else, I would imagine it gets frustrating when you feel that the pain isn't improving and they don't seem to be progressing you along. Take care.
