I used to do that a lot when I lived in the country. Not deliberately, of course, but cute critters of little brain have a habit of running in front of cars and swerving might well put others at risk. I've not had any follow up from the squirrel community, so assume you'll be fine too.0

In some areas not so long ago you would receive a payment of 50p if you took a grey squirrel's tail to a police station. Grey squirrels have been described as "rats with good PR." They have seen off most of the native red variety.0

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but if you kill say a pheasant with your car, you are not allowed to take it home to eat it( should you be so inclined) , but the person following you can…0

It is not only pheasants.
Applies to deer as well. A friend fed her dogs on the roadkill deer on the road where she lived after she kept the good bits for the family freezer.0
