Old Style Daily Sunday 05 September 2021

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning folks.Yesterday was a day of little action and much thought. 😀 I did a washing load which dried well despite the lack of sun and cleared out a little more of the excess stuff from the spare bed. Not that it's noticeable, but I know that things have gone. Late in the afternoon a dog-walking neighbour called in for some 'sparkling' chat and a wee G&T 😀😀
Today I've been lying in bed lost in more thought. Does thinking constitute being productive? Part of my thinking has been about why this fantastically supportive thread is failing to thrive. Is it just natural wastage or area people not liking it anymore? And why?The weather forecast for here today is dire. The end tail of the storm from America is coming to the west coast of Scotland to dump rain for most of the day. Nothing sends me into a slothful state more than heavy rain. I may well hibernate. My thoughts to our missing and poorlies. Happy Sunday to all.11 -
Morning Gers, I have been wondering the same thing. I do not post every day as because of my illness some days are difficult and I have no news. Today though I have been invited out to lunch and drinks with a neighbour. She has invited approx. 20 people so am really looking forward to it.I do read the thread every day and it would be a shame to lose it.10

Morning All
We do seem to be short of numbers Gers, although a few are on holiday. Thinking is definitely being productive!
Enjoy your gathering poppy.
I've put the washing out although we have rain due later, hoping it at least half dries by then. We had a shower around midday yesterday so the washing came in to be finished in the TD but I did put another load out later and it dried.
Brought home another big bag of onions yesterday, will string them up today. Still quite a few courgettes - I'm sure the neighbours are hiding!
Off to the big blue and yellow shed this morning to buy some furniture for our new families at school. Not sure I'll get the correct thing but they are very grateful for anything to make their new homes comfortable.
Hope you have a peaceful Sunday, take care. XX11 -
Good morning, just a quick wave, I am supposed to be doing the last bits of packing of the van. Setting off to Staffordshire this morning, about 80 miles I think, but all journeys from here are rather tedious.
Gers thank you for the new thread, have a good day all.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)11 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS. I have been having the same thoughts as you as regards lack of posters. I know some are on holiday and illness prevents others but we have never been so low on numbers before. It would be a real shame to lose the Daily altogether as over the years it's been a support through good times and bad for quite a few of us. Even when I have nothing to say I waffle on and nobody has told me to shut up yet!
I am a latecomer this morning as I was expecting an Iceland delivery between 8 and 9 and wanted to be organised! It's mostly store cupboard stuff, frozen veg and fish. I like the fish from their Luxury range. The big freezer got defrosted yesterday in readiness and the smaller overflow freezer got tidied too. The delivery arrived at 8.05 and that is now all away, The fridge and fruit bowl was stocked up yesterday thanks to my little bus ride to the next little town along.
My freezer tidy unearthed another bag of sliced beef in gravy. A nice surprise as I thought I had used it all. That is now earmarked for my lunch with assorted veg.
It's a lovely day and the sun has appeared at last! The forecast is for a mini heatwave of up to 27 deg for the next few days. I hope it happens!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies and poorly loved ones. POPPY enjoy your lunch and MADDIE have a good trip away. Take care one and all and be safe. xx

Hi everyone,
Gers, as you probably saw I have been wondering about the thread as well. I know some are on holiday but it seems to be more than that. I know I've stopped posting at times and just lurked so I wonder if some people are doing that, maybe because they think they have nothing old style to comment on. I very often don't have much OS that I want to comment on, I think we just take it as read that we are here because we have a common ethos - we try to cook from scratch as much as possible and make do and mend when we can. Just because we indulge in the odd takeaway or ready meal doesn't mean we should stop posting.
We've also had a few new posers flit in and out, it takes a while to get in the habit of posting every (or most days). The other problem which is very real for me is that a lot of my days are quite repetitive and I bore myself writing about them so goodness knows what it does to the reader so I don't post absolutely every day. Lastly, I think the summer always has a bit of a downturn on the thread with holidays and people generally being out and about more.
I don't post on other threads but maybe if others do they could encourage some of the posters to join in here. I'd also like news of Monnagran and Nanny Window if anyone's seen them around.
Anyway, that's me two penn'orth. We were supposed to be going home tomorrow but will be staying till Thursday now. Laura and Brian were supposed to be coming here with his mum and brothers and we were going home leaving Ziggy with them. Unfortunately Brian's mum has been in hospital a couple of times recently s understandably she doesn't want to leave Glasgow so they will stay there till later in the week. It's good because it will give us a bit more time here now we are getting over our colds.
Have a good day.12 -
My plan for sloth has suffered a mini-fail. I'm still upstairs and in my pjs but have pulled out the three drawers from the chest and done a radical declutter and a re-organisation of the remainder. Now I have two empty drawers, a bag for the CS, a bag for the bin and a pile which needs more thinking about! The empty drawers are now ready to house things from the spare bed. A result of sorts.Sometimes (or most times these days) there's little of interest for me to say but I enjoy saying it anyway. 😀 My MSE efforts are there and I still aim to have a few NSD here and there. Since coming home I have spent a few pounds here and there to replace unusable foodstuffs and add in some things to give me a more comfortable home. I have only lit the wood burner twice though I came close to it yesterday but decided to close the front door instead. 😀In my clear out I've found three old portable hard drives so I'm really keen to see what's on them, perhaps some interesting documents which I've been searching for.
Good luck Camelot - that big shed is my idea of hellEnjoy your extra days Snoozer, hope that Brian's mum is recovering well.13 -
I’m an every day lurker, but don’t really think I have anything to say!
however, we grow a lot of our own food in our allotment, meal plan and cook from scratch. We generally live pretty old style day to day.
I will make a point of posting every day, as I’d hate to see this lovely friendly, supportive thread dwindle away.
So, today, I’ll be dealing with the produce that comes home from allotment by freezing it and making a cake.

Morning all,
I have been reading along, and will try and post daily, I am trying to be more organised so will build it in to my daily morning list to post.
Things have been up and down here with three increasingly frail parents all in their mid/late 80’s. Plus my fibromyalgia symptoms have got worse.
Have been pottering around in the house mainly as my DH is unwell and is housebound. With the nice weather we had earlier it was nice to sit out in the garden, and the next few days look encouraging weather wise. I will make the most of the sun to wash my sheets and towels tomorrow.
Today, I will be sorting through my scrap yarn and start a blanket, a baby blanket for my great nephew who is now 4 months. I also wish to crochet myself a poncho or shawl to keep me warm in winter, especially while reading in bed during winter.
Must go and see if DH has woken up and put some porridge on.
Take care all.

Good morning everyone
It's a nice bright morning here and I have woken to the smell of fresh bread and bacon cooking. Lee has been up all night as he is not doing so well again but he has been busy making bread rolls for lunch. I am very very worried about him at the moment as he says he now has multiple personalities inhabiting him and he is not always in control of himself. He is supposed to go back to college on the 13th but I don't know if he will be well enough. The problem for me is that he is over 18 so technically he is under the 'care' of Adult services and so if he needs to be admitted to hospital again, he will be on an Adult ward and not necessarily one local to us. I am not sleeping very much and feel very overwhelmed and out of my depth.
I agree with you Gers that the thread is going through a quiet patch. I have found it a massive support over the years and would be absolutely heartbroken if it closed. I am guilty of not posting as often as before but that's usually due to ill health or just feeling that I have nothing positive to say. I will make more effort to post daily as I love reading what everyone is up to.
My friend came to see me yesterday and we had a good chat. Her bipolar seems to be more under control now so it is a genuine pleasure to spend time with her and I know it is a good respite for her as well as her husband has dementia and life can be difficult for her. We both like knitting toys so it was good to show her my new patterns and tell her my plans for my Christmas knitting.
I have a small shopping delivery from Tesco coming in a few minutes. I just ordered a few bits that I had forgotten from the main shop and the rest is cleaning stuff as I am sick of living in a bit of a mess. The floor needs cleaning in the kitchen due to spills so that is something I can do later. The dogs also track dirt and grass into the house so that needs clearing up to. I want to get the cleaning cupboard under the sink pulled out so I can actually see what we have.
I have my fingers crossed that Jemima will come and see me today. She has been poorly with a bad cold so obviously didn't want to come over and spread her germs especially as I was just out of hospital. She went back to work yesterday though so she is obviously feeling a lot better. I haven't seen Lilly for weeks either so I will message her today and see if she wants to come over so I can feed her up. The last time I saw her, her clothes were hanging off her as she had lost so much weight. I just feel the need to gather all my little chicks and make sure they are all ok.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx10
