  • Once you have 3 comparative quotes, come back here to discuss them......
Well yes, but that's the problem, i have mentioned it in my post. Getting people to actually come and quote. We could be 3 years down the line by then, frozen to death. Anyway, I had to call SSE for something on Monday, at the end of the call I asked if they do new connections of boilers. Their websites only refer to replacements. But they could not have been more helpful.  Passed through to the right department, quoted a price (same boiler as plumber quoted for), surveyor came yesterday, all fine. They are even going to drill through the 2.5ft thick walls (husband was going to do it for the other plumber) Boiler being fitted next Friday, £2k less than the plumber quoted.

I would never usually go to the big companies for something like this as generally, they're more expensive. But on this occasion, they've come up trumps 👍
  • Yes the original 5.5k quote was way too high.

Earlier this year I had an old boiler/hot water tank system removed and replaced with a Baxi 800 combi boiler (big enough for a 4 bedroom detached house) and hive smart thermostat. £2900 overall cost.

And I'm in the Edinburgh area, where prices are always higher.

In the future, I recommend you use companies from the Scotland Trusted Traders scheme --> https://www.trustedtrader.scot/
Companies listed there are vetted and reviewed so they should be reliable and fair priced.
