Removals with exch/compl close together

Hey. How are you booking removals when exchange and completion are so close. As can't book until exchanged , but then that's only 3 days .ie possibly exchanging on 13th then moving 17th

Get ready and pack as much as possible.
Take everything you don't need or haven't used to the tip.
The madness that happened early this year has eased in many parts of the country but get a few quotes.
    Could you move yourselves ?
Hire a large van with tail lift and DIY ?

That's one of the reasons people often have a longer gap. Back in the day it used to be 3-4 weeks standard - much more leisurely!
Some removals companies will make provisional bookings, but understandably they are concerned Exchange might be delayed or even never happen, leaving them with no work (or money) on the expected Completion date.
  • If it was my choice it would be a longer gap,  but  this is the date which has come down from the top of the chain, and we don't want to risk any delays !

Slightly chaotic but it is possible. Plan ahead as much as you can.

A good, professional removal company will be used to issues of dates around exchange/completion.  I would suggest you contact a few and have a chat

We have this issue currently. If we pay and 'fully book' the removals for a specific date, we lose money if we have to change that date. It was a fair whack too, 50% within 5 days and 75% if it was the day before. Then we'd have to pay again for the new date. I rang the company and they suggested I pay a deposit and collect boxes and packing materials, then pay the rest when we have exchanged. I was worried about the date being taken but they said they had plenty of space that date. Just got to hope that's the case come the time! We are meant to be completing next Friday and exchanging on Monday, so it does feel a bit up in the air still.
We have packed all of the downstairs and the garage, upstairs is this weekend's job.

This is what I did with the help of my brother and dad, I would highly recommend. Things like beds, wardrobes etc aren’t as daunting to carry as you expect, especially once you have pulled them apart.
