Cancelling Vodafone Broadband 1 day early or 2 days late, what's best?

My Vodafone broadband 18 month contract ends on 18th September (which is a Saturday); I have decided to switch to Plusnet, but I can't decide the activation date, they seem to give you an activation date 14 days from the date of the order; today is the 3rd so it gives me an activation date for the 17th of September.
Would placing the order today mean that I'm terminating Vodafone's 18 month contract early and thus incurring fees?
If I place the order tomorrow, I guess the activation date will slip to Monday 20th September; does it mean I'll have to pay another month with Vodafone or just a pro rata for the 2 extra days after the contract that I'll use their service?

  • As activation is done remotely, why do you guess it would not be done on a weekend or am I missing something?

OP you do not cancel all transactions are handled by the gaining provider .
Its handled as pro rata .

Yes, I meant "cancelling" as in "moving to another provider"; if it's pro rata then I can just wait and to it tomorrow

TBH, the ETC for switching a day or two before the minimum term expires  will not amount to much, similarly if you cancel a day or two after the minimum expires, a couple of days ‘rental’ at whatever the ‘out or contract’ rate is , probably won’t be much more than what you currently pay for a couple of days inside the minimum….
Although the gaining provider may give a target date for the changeover , occasionally Openreach ( who do the physical work ) do it late anyway , and in that case you pay the old provider until the date OR actually do the work, trying to get the changeover done on the exact date the minimum term expires is probably not worth stressing over.
FWIW, the chances are the monthly bill will be produced by VF anyway , so you will probably get charged for a whole month, even if you are only a VF customer for part of it, VF will refund the days you have paid for after the switch has taken place.
  • As above, you don't need to contact VF to do anything, inform your new provider when you want your switch to be effective from and they'll sort out everything else. I've recently switched away Vodafone and once they are notified of your departure, they generate your final bill will be for the entirety of your final month and then you'll get a pro-rata refund for the unused portion the month afterwards. The early termination charges for a few days won't amount to much so it doesn't really matter in the scheme of things IMO. I'd personally get the switch started sooner rather than later in case there are any delays as then things will get sorted a few days sooner.
