No show passenger

Hi everyone!

I have a holiday booked to Tenerife in October, I was due to go to Mexico however I changed the holiday as they are on the red list. I am booked through TUI. I am the lead passenger and my friend is coming with me however she has a new job in which she would have to take unpaid leave to cover her isolation period where she is not double jabbed. I have called tui who advised me that if I was to remove her from the booking completely and I went alone then I would need to pay an additional £200-£300 where I would then be a solo traveller. I’m at a loss with what to do! If she was just a ‘no show passenger’ who didn’t turn up and I went alone rather than removing her from the booking would I then be charged later on? I did ask them if this is not covered in their Covid cover but they said no. Can anyone give me any advice at all? I don’t want to be charged later down the line ☹️

  • Also just to add this is a package holiday. All inclusive for 4 days for the flights and hotel ect.
  • Either just travel alone and she accepts that she gets no refund.

Or change it to a solo booking, and she can cover your additional cost from any refund.

    See which turns out cheaper.

Has your friend had one jab? If so, she could just try to get her second jab as soon as possible.

  • Do the T&Cs allow you to cancel the holiday for a refund and rebook for a later date when you can travel together ?
Or is it that you would like to go on your own ?

This - you only need to wait 14 and then you’re fully vaccinated :)

She’s only had her first jab recently so has to wait the full 8 weeks for the second one ☹️

I still want to go on the holiday but it’s just they said if I remove her I’ll have to pay the extra few hundred pounds so I’m thinking if she just doesn’t turn up and goes as a no show then I won’t be liable for any additional charges as technically I’ve not actually taken her off the booking

There was once a time when people were administered medical interventions to protect them against disease rather than simply to do things which are their inalienable rights. Dark and disturbing times.

But what do you intend doing about her receiving a refund ?

That’s correct but your  friend will not get any of her money back if she is a no show . You can cancel your friends booking  and pay the extra giving you friend her full refund or deduct the extra charge from your friend’s refund so that you do not pay extra but your friend will not get a full refund - have you discussed this with your friend , will you friend be happy with this ? If not you need to decide which is more important your friendship or your holiday ?
