Phantom calls on my o2 pay monthly contract.
Options
I am currently on an O2 monthly contract and have noticed over the last month or so that there have been a series of calls reported on my online statement claimed to have been made from my phone. The reason I am stating this is because of course I never made these calls and nobody else has had access to my phone.
All of these calls were made to 08450810053 which according to google is a lycos dialup number(After seeing this number I called it via my landline to check it out and did hear the tones of a dialup modem).
At the moment it is no big deal as all these calls cost around a few pence each but I am worried that they are appearing at all. What if instead of pennies the next time it happens it costs hundreds of pounds? I have emailed O2 about it but in anticipation of their reply I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this phenomenom. What could makes these calls appear to originate from my mobile and why 08450810053?

do you have any applications on your phone that update themselves automatically via the web, eg weather apps. currency converters, smart metrics etc. All these types of application can be set to log on and get updates automatically so you might need to check out if you have anything like this0

Hi Carly,
That is a good thought you have there. I have definitely not set up anything that would have to access the web like you say but I am wondering whether something might have been set up by default. If it has then either Dialaphone(where I got the phone) or O2 have been very naughty and not informed me. I am still waiting for a response from O2 so hopefully I will know more later on.0
