I agree. Like @pinkteapot we relocated to Cumbria from the South and we paid around 2.5k all in (we used a Cumbrian firm, who were fantastic btw).

Hi all. I have searched the forum for this but most threads seem very old or closed. We are doing a long distance move from Manchester to Devon. Need a big truck. Been quoted £2000.we pack they load. 2 days needed. Is this roughly in line of what to expect? Anyone done a comparable journey recently? Thanks
I will say it is on cheaper side, 2.5K from South Wales to Cardiff this jan, however this included packing, dismantling furniture and re assembly.
Going by news of driver shortage I will say it is a quite good deal.
Put in Anyvan site as well, it gives you a reasonable mid market quote , will help you further to decide

We've had quotes from between £3.5k to £8.5k for a move from Surrey to Shropshire. This is a 3 bed semi where most furniture and all white goods are being left so very little to actually move. I wasn't expecting so high but we've had several quotes so I'm guessing they don't like long distance moves 🤷‍♀️
We were quoted 3.5k upwards for Surrey to Pembrokeshire in 2019, it was the long distance that was the problem.
It was cheaper with a couple of lutons because the rules are easier than a pantechnicon regarding driving hours.
In the end we hired a storage unit in Cardiff and did a few trips ourselves, so that the house was virtually empty for the actual move day in a luton.

I've had quotes on a move from East London to Stirling, Scotland at £4k (+ extra for boxes, dismantling etc), £4.8k (all in) and £8.5k (silly quote, clearly don't want the job). Us packing, 3 day job, 2 people, big 18tonne lorry.

The problem we've had is it's taken so long to get near agreeing on a completion date I haven't been able to book removals until this week. Now only a couple of single days are available in Sept, so having to delay until early October when things quiet down. Thankfully, no one in our chain needs the SD holiday.
  • That is a very very reasonable quote.

I am moving in 4 weeks from Wiltshire to Liverpool and my cost for a self pack with a 2 day delivery was £2500(inc vat) That is using a Wiltshire firm.

Altho I did have an extortionate one of over £5500

Id take your hand off for £2000.

We moved from Northamptonshire to Moretonhampstead (middle of Dartmoor in Devon).  It was an overnight trip

We chose a family firm with awards and 5 star reviews.  It cost more but was worth every penny.

I think it seems reasonable too. We are paying £1175 to move 16 miles away. We are self packing but get everything provided. This is for a a large 3 bed plus garage. Heavy stuff such as gym equipment too.

We have hired vans and done it ourselves previously but it's been so stressful that we decided to pay the extra so we don't have to argue whilst trying to lift heavy stuff together! 😂

I moved from somewhere else 10 mins away  and it cost me just under 500£ and it was the cheapest, so the op's price seems reasonable

make sure you get 3 quotes

I do not think they will get a cheaper quote unless they do it themselves.
