If you had a substantial amount in a cash ISA would you move it to a S&S ISA?

It really depends on your circumstances. If you don't need access to the money for at least the next 5-7 years to ride out market volatility then a sensible S&S investment is likely to be more suitable than hoarding cash which just loses spending power to inflation but then some cash is useful in emergencies and for any large spends that might occur in the next few years.2

Probably not as the pension tax wrapper would be more suitable for me.

Yes, all or cash ISAs went into S&S ISAs around 10 years ago, With the poor interest you get on them they are currently not worth having.1

That was my thinking.

But weak interest rates aren't a particularly good rationale for moving (potentially significantly) up the risk scale - you should evaluate whether doing so is compatible with your risk tolerance and your financial objectives, rather than being driven by rates as such....BigSpenderLittleSpender said:

True, but for cash holdings ISA interest rate are significantly lower than rates outside ISAs so any tax advantage is wiped out for the vast majority of savers.eskbanker said:

Agreed, my comment was in the context of OP's plan to shift from cash ISA to S&S ISA, but yes, it's usually possible to earn more from taxable cash accounts than cash ISAs, so that's another alternative for those getting twitchy about cash ISA interest rates, which doesn't involve changing risk profile.Keep_pedalling said:
