Using Fund Search Tools / Screeners

  • Thanks for that. You're correct that one of my concerns is trying to forecast what the future holds especially in view of seemingly inflated US equities. Also of course at 66 years of age it may not be wise to take a very long view! In good health at the moment but who knows!

The plan is to move funds from our unshielded GIA (100k)  into shares ISAs over the next few years, and rely on a stash of cash, (25k) plus some modest annuities (7k) + state pension. Also I have a couple of DC schemes which I will consolidate (170k) and use for drawdown, investing in diversified / multi-asset funds with the cash and annuities acting in lieu of the traditional bonds element. Still open to ideas though.

However, what I hoped to explore in this thread is the benefits, limitations and idiosyncrasies of search / screening tools. It strikes me that provided these tools are correctly configured and understood, it should be possible to harness the data and expertise to make the call on which funds best suit the situation, using fields such as risk and return, capital preservation / depletion or whatever.

To refer back to the motoring analogy, like Jeremy Clarkson I know nothing about what's under the bonnet. I just want to get from A to B economically and with the minimum depreciation in value. (OK that doesn't fit for JC - he'd tick the max BHP and min 0-60 boxes)

    Shouldn't this be possible?
