Incorrect meters?

Hi, looking through this board I am wondering if my energy meters are faulty as my energy bills seem to be a lot lower than they should be. My understanding is if the meters aren't found to be faulty I would have to pay the cost myself, also I am due to switch energy supplier soon and not sure when to raise it. I don't really want to have to stop with Avro any longer than necessary (my current supplier). Wondered if anyone had any advice please?

Is this based on estimated bills or have you been submitting regular readings? Why on earth would you want to alert the company if your meter is under reading?

Is your utility supplier actually using your meter reads?  Are you supplying the readings? Avro are one of the companies who have been accused of not using customer supplied or smart meter reads but substituting estimates..

Hi, I submit regular energy readings (on a monthly basis). My usage just seems very low to others

But are they using them ?? Look at your bills - Are the meter reads shown as C,A or E ?

Give us some actual figures please plus details of your heating and main users of energy (forget TV's. chargers - the things which are the main users are heating, showers, cookers, some old freezers)

What actual annual figures have you given to your new supplier ?

Both those numbers arre very low usage.
Are you at home right now? Can you read your meters and let us know what the current readings are?

Check that the serial numbers on the meter match those on the bills.  Whay type of property is it?
If the meters are external, e.g. in a communal area or meter room, do a meter sanity test as follows.
Close down and unplug all computers and sensitive equipment and then switch off all the circuits at the consumer unit, ending with the main switch. Look at the red LED on the meter on the wall marked '1000 Imp/kWh' or similar and make sure it never flashes once or, if it’s an old meter, make sure the spinning disk never moves. Then switch on all the high power appliances (kettle, tumble dryer, hotplate, oven etc) and make sure the light is flashing rapidly or the disk is spinning.
Finally, switch off everything except one high power item of known rating (e.g. a kettle) and count the number of flashes (impulses) or disk rotations per minute. If the light says '1000 Imp/kWh' then a 3kW kettle should make it flash about 50 times per minute. Not an exact test because the kettle's rating may be approximate and the power it draws will depend on the local voltage, but near enough.
For gas, switch off at the meter and make sure the appliances no longer work.

Just checked my meters. Electricity showing as 6490 kw and gas 2202kw. It is a 3 bed semi built in 2015 and lots of insulation so I had previously put this down as one of the reasons why I have low usage. The serial numbers on my meters match to the ones on my latest bill. I'm not comfortable with messing around with the meters, I'm afraid.
