Wife returned from amber country on Friday so today (Sunday) is the day she needs to take her test. But it has to be taken to a post office and they are closed for two days.

Any advice? There is nothing to cover this scenario in the provider's documentation or gov website etc.

You can take it and package it up and return it when the PO opens.

They could have taken and posted the test yesterday (Saturday) or even Friday if they were back in time.

agree - but I am guessing many people think their test needs to be done on day 2 and don't realise they can take it any time from when they pass through immigration (even before they leave the airport in some cases)

Can it be posted at one of the 35,000 Royal Mail priority post boxes which were set up for collection of Covid test kits ? These have collections everyday including Sunday & Bank Holiday .

     https://www.royalmail.com/priority-postboxes

Alternatively you may need to arrange and pay for a courier to collect .

The test will be void if it doesn’t reach the lab within 48 hours of taking the test so don’t take the test until just before you post it .

I'd be looking into getting my money back as it is not the service you paid for. Did you have to enter her flight arrival date at the point you paid for it? If so, the company knew the relevant dates and knew it was for a "Day 2"  so would have known whether it was feasible or not.

The companies themselves are often keen to point out that not all pcr tests are the same. They don't want you using a day 2 or 8 test as a fit to fly for example. So they knew very well the meaning of the "Day 2nes" but sold you something that couldn't work as a day 2.

You do not have to take the test package to a post office ,a priority post box is all you need so there is no need to claim any money back.

All ‘ day 2 tests’ can be taken on day zero, day 1 or day 2. So you were sold something you could have used, no entitlement to a refund. If you miss doing a day 2 test the advice is to do it as soon as possible. I haven’t heard any official advice that says not to bother doing it and try to claim a refund. @reg091 your wife should do it on day3. @michael1234 do you have source to say not to bother doing it and claim a refund?

The OP should also have been aware it would be a bank holiday so could  have made enquiries before . He would then have been told the test could be taken onFriday or Saturday.

We don't know when the test arrived. My test last last week arrived on day 2 so would have been impossible to take prior.

    There are two issues here:

1/ Whether or not the testing company provided the service requested. I think they did not as it was not possible to take on day 2 (assuming it arrived on day 2) and the company would have known that. Therefore they need to refund.

2/ When and whether the OP needs to take a test from any supplier. The answer is clearly yes but if I was him or her would seek advice from test and trace.
