Replaced airbag, now flashing.

During the installation of my cruise control unit, I had to replace the airbag module so I could remove the steering wheel and get to the wiring behind it.
I have since replaced the wheel and the airbag and now the airbag light flashes continuously.
Obviously there's a chance I damaged the clock spring, but it's unlikely.
I have checked all the wiring and I can't see what's amiss.

On YouTube I have seen the same job done and a scanner is needed to clear the airbag code. That's £50 down the drain at a garage.

Any other options, do most vehicles require codes being wiped each time you replace the airbag?

I can't advice on what the fix is for your problem, but I would suggest you put the £50 towards a diagnostics tool for your car that will reset you to reset codes and do other diagnostics for you in future.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

    Agreed.

I needed the TPMS reset on my car.   £100 for the software and cables - much better investment than paying the dealer to do it.

first of all not sure what vechile we talking about, and not sure what the original fault was. should of gone to a main dealer in the first place, and it would of all been sorted.
  • A cheap £20 OBD reader should clear the airbag code. Not sure about the TPMS though. Definitely worth a try.

Highly unlikely. Something a bit more professional will be required for safety related resets. I have an Autel which does it but it cost £££.

A cheap OBD reader will just do that "read". If you want to do any coding etc then you'll need to buy software on top to do this, although that itself doesn't have to be expensive.

Depends on the car. For my BMW I can get a good OBD reader and all the relevant software to code and reset for less than £100.

Just had a look and a hardware kit cost in this country is ~£1300, on a market website the same product (copy), ~$70, some sellers were far cheaper. Can do pretty much everything exept esoteric stuff.

Was the battery disconnected when you did all this?
How long was it disconnected before you touched anything?

EOBD readers won't touch airbag codes - they're not part of the EOBD spec, which is purely engine management.
