And you would want the best teachers for your child able to live in the area.
Not quite sure what you are saying.
Of course any school/parent wants the best teachers on the payroll. That doesn't mean that every teacher in the school is a good one, unfortunately many are not, and it doesn't mean that all their kids should get a place if they don't live locally enough to qualify for one in their own right. There are hundreds and thousands of workers, many of them key workers, who have to travel some way to work and lots on on lesser salaries than teachers. Should a family member of a hospital nurse get treated quicker? Should the family of a shop worker get first dibs on yellow stickers or walk to the front of the queue? Nope. So why do teachers' kids get a place? Yes, teachers start work earlier the beginning of the school day, but many of us have to juggle drop off and pickup with work and having our kids at a local school with nearby friends to walk home with really helps.
I'll leave it now, as this is not the topic of this thread and unless you haven't guessed, teachers are not my favourite profession. Over the years estate agents have caused me a lot less grief and heartache and I at least expect there to be some exaggeration of the truth going on.

Just to clarify my earlier point, a key factor was that the Op's view was that the old house was in the catchment area for a desired secondary school. I was merely asking if this was based on policy or perceived policy.
If there was no catchment area, then that would give greater freedom to find an alternative house to look at buying.

Is this the same house that already has HMO sitting tenants and you thought meant you might become an "accidental" landlord?
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6287647/advice-on-buying-buy2let-with-tenants/p1

And the neighbours are doing a lot of work?
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6288727/buying-house-with-party-wall-notice#latest

And now someone is building a tower block opposite?

And you've had two threads about mortgage queries as well?

If this is all the same property, then it seems as though you have substantial doubts that are enough to suggest another property might well be more closely matched to your wants and needs.
I missed that it was that OP.
If it is the same property when why they haven't run away screaming already is beyond me.

Yes it’s the same property 😓… that’s why I said the surprise keeps coming !

The tenants have found somewhere to move to, paid the deposit so they should be moving out by end of Oct…

Then the neighbour doing the work..party wall agreement, the other next door HMO…

now the latest is the 21 flats opposite! 😓🙈

    This is the last straw..

There are no catchment areas any more. The order of many/most policies goes:

    1) SEND/LAC
    2) staff children
    3) sibling at school
    4) distance to the door as the crow flies
Maybe not where you are, but there certainly are in this area!
(Although they’ve been renamed Priority Admissions Areas.)
2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shading
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end
    MFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
    2021 £1250.00, 2022 £1500.00, 2023 £1500, 2024 £1350
    2025 target = £1200, YTD £9190

You will usually find sibling link is above these in the oversubscription criteria.
  • Where we r are based on the distance to the school as well. The last fist born got in last year lives 0.6 mile to the school…

The house we are looking at has no chance.
that’s why we had to stay where we r for at the least 2 years…

Thanks all for your kind and honest replies !

Recently my hubby kept missing the turns when driving, had a near-accident miss yesterday, I feel we are all mentally drained and stressed by this house, even before all the trouble begins….

We know what we need to do now.
Had a dream of living back to the park, the reality is less than romantic. Suppose it’s not the right house. Would need to wait for the
right one, maybe by the park maybe not 😊…

Does sibling link not help you? It's above distance in the admissions policy. Or am I misunderstanding?

In my days of working it was
    1. Special educational needs naming that school
    2. Sibling at the school
    3. Distance
In primary school with the 30 class rule if you had more siblings than spaces it went to distance.
BUT again each authority might have their own rules and you still needed to correctly complete the forms on time.
If Class size is not an issue I would not expect you moving further away but having a sibling at the school would prevent you securing a space. I can't recall an appeal being turned down if you had a sibling already.
This is based on work on several hundred school appeals over 20 years ago so rules may have changed since then.
