Universal credit and self employment

Can someone tell me, is the process of declaring income the same as usual or does it change when you start to earn some income from self employment? What does the process involve?

Do you have to attend the JC or is it all done online?

    That depends.
You will have to attend an initial Self Employment Gateway appointment with evidence of your self employment for them to determine if you are gainfully self employed, and whether you qualify for a start up period. If you are in the 12 month start up period, you will also be required to attend quarterly review appointments at the jobcentre.
As @calcotti said, the actual reporting of income and expenses is completed online each month.
