Wrong item - Storage costs

Hi, I have just received a new dishwasher bought on Amazon which was sold by Hughes.
The dishwasher ordered was the stainless steel model but the white model has arrived. Having contacted Hughes and Amazon, it seems that there was an error on the listing. Hughes do not stock the silver model. As such they offer me a refund and they want me to keep the item until their courier comes to fetch it.
I would like to know what my rights are for compensation for the time off work and for the storage of the item.
I have already taken this morning off work due to the delivery. I understand that normally I could not claim for this morning were they to have failed delivery, but here they assert that the order was an error on their part. I will also have to take a day off work when they come to pick it up.
I also do not have space for a full size dishwasher in my house (It is currently sitting in the middle of my kitchen)
I would therefore like to claim from the retailer 2 days work plus storage costs for the interim. I would find out how much a local storage costs.
Am I within my rights to demand this?
Can they hold on to my money until they pick the item up?

Think the going rate for daily storage costs is currently £54.25.1) If you ordered through and paid Amazon, then your contact is with them.2) Yes you are within your rights to demand this. You can demand anything you wish. Whether they have to legally accept that demand is something totally different.3) Yes, they can hold your money until the collect the item. Why do you need to take a whole day off work? You need to mitigate your losses. Can a neighbour assist, book for when you are off work etc? Also why are you claiming two days when you only took this morning off? That doesn't count anyway.PS - I was joking about storage costs. Of course you can't charge for storage unless this is agreed in a contract.

How would you feel if a company forced you to store a large item for an indefinite amount of time. I told them I am happy to leave it outside the front door to be picked up but I cannot be held liable for rain damage or theft. Why do I have to look after it for them?0

They have listed an item which they don't stock and have thus made a fraudulent transaction.
They want me to stay in a second day so they can pick up the offending item.
They actually emailed saying someone must be in between 7am and 7pm to accept the delivery!0 -

Why do I have to look after it for them?I'd think 'that's life', sometimes things go wrong. I certainly wouldn't start thinking about how much money I could make out of it. You can of course leave the item outside, but if it gets stolen/damaged then you won't be refunded as you have a duty of care whilst the item is with you. It's also not going to be an 'indefinite' amount of time. It's likely to be a week or two.1

It's not fraudulent, you said yourself in your post that it was an error. Just wait for them to collect & then re-order direct from them.0

They don't have the correct item. They say they dont stock it0
