Forced to Quarantine - pay advice

Options
Morning,

I work for a small company who are in the motor trade. I have recently (Monday 23/8) come into contact with a customer who has, since meeting me, tested positive for Covid. I have received both vaccines so no longer need to isolate after coming into contact with a positive case unless showing signs of the virus. I have tested every 12 hours or so and so far I'm negative.  Work are now saying they want me to stay away from the workshop for 10 days to avoid possibly spreading the virus to people who have received one or neither vaccinations.

My question is, do I have the right to full pay as I'm now being told to stay off work when legally I have the right to remain working?

Any help would be much appreciated.

It depends on your contract of employment.

Has your employer said they will not pay you? It does seem unfair.

We don't have sufficient information. For example, if this is a zero hours contract, there would be no rights to anything. If it is a contract for a specific number of hours per week, there would be more chance of an argument, but we don't actually know whether the employer is offering full pay, or sick pay, or nothing.

Sorry let me give it some clarity. So I am full time employed on a 40 hour contract. I have been with the company 16 months. They are currently saying that I am not likely to receive anything and they are using the argument that I haven't passed the 14 day period that is needed to be classed as fully vaccinated. I have said I'm happy to test daily to ensure I'm not infected. They are not allowing me to return to work

If you haven't passed the 14 days since your second vaccine then you should self isolate. Once you pass the 14 days I would then argue your case to return.

If you are able to work and are contracted to do so, they would be in breach of contract if they didn't pay you. Companies seem to keep trying things on.

My other half had issues with her company as after the rules on travel to amber countries changed for vaccinated people they kept their workplace rules the same (ie. returning employees were expected to take leave to cover quarantine from work).

I would have expected that you would be eligible for statutory sick pay or to be furloughed either of which would give you something.

Have you asked them about pay? I would expect you to qualify for sick pay.

But they don't appear to have been contacted by track and Trace so have no legal obligation to do so.  It is only those notified by Track and Trace that legally must self isolate.

It does seem rather unfair for the OP to be told to stay off work when there is no legal requirement to do so and then refuse to pay them anything.

1  The OP is not fully vaccinated as it is not 14 days since his second vax.
2  He does not say he has or hasn't been contacted by track and trace.
