Cancelled return leg back to UK Jet2 flight

Several months ago I contacted Resolver following MSE glowing recommendation and spent hours obtaining, copying and sending information to support my claim regarding Jet2 cancelling my return flight from Faro to Newcastle despite other Jet2 flights to other UK destinations still flying. The result after several more exchanges I have to make a claim through the Portuguese equivalent of the CAA is this correct and if it is can anybody give me advice. Frankly I really wonder if its worth it now we have left the EU and what implications regarding claims can be taken from this. FYI the Portuguese site is not user friendly for UK citizens! Score out of 5 for Resolver -5?

How did you eventually travel back? what is the claim for - reimbursement of the cancelled flight? reimbursement of the replacement flight purchased to get back? duty of care whilst you waited for replacement Jet2 flight?

 A)EU Regulation 261/2004 (EC 261),

JET2 cancelled all flights to Newcastle full stop. Had to travel by Ryan air to Birmingham. Claiming for expenses car hire etc to collect my parked car at Newcastle, Offer from Jet2 Faro to alternative UK airport was £240 ++ Ryan Air £30++ still had to pay for hire car 2 nights extra in Faro no offers from Jet2 to cover these costs. 

Flights in November 2020, several months wasted due to Jet2, CAA, Resolver etc taking months between communications  to respond.
