Recommendations for garden hose

Expanding hoses can be OK but buy something decent perhaps with a good guarantee. One of my neighbours went for an expanding hose. A few months later they bought their third but it was much better quality and had a guarantee for a number of years. The others had split. It would have helped if they had always made sure they had emptied the hose.

It sounds as though the expanding ones may be temperamental, and I'd have to remember to empty the hose after use. Perhaps I'll stay with a traditional one on a trolley.
Is Hozelock still a decent brand? It's many years since I last bought a hose as my previous one lasted for over 20 years.0 -
Expanding hoses are pretty poor quality to be honest.
Have a look at Toolstation or Screwfix for some better quality ones.
Some have a 20 year guarantee if I remember right.

I've got a Hozelock. It's the most leaky hosepipe I've ever had. Every joint has water pouring out of it. Drives me mad. I have to tighten joints up all the time.1

Can you recall which particular Hozelock hose it is, and is it on a trolley?WeAreGhosts said:I've got a Hozelock. It's the most leaky hosepipe I've ever had. Every joint has water pouring out of it. Drives me mad. I have to tighten joints up all the time.0 -
I've never had to empty my expanding hose in the 10 years I've had it. It empties automatically as it collapses when the water is turned off.As with all hoses it should not be exposed to direct sunlight for days on end to avoid solar damage / heat build up. Mine is still in very good condition but if it failed then I'd have another in a heartbeat. So much easier to use and store.1

Same here. I love my expanding hose. Bought several years ago. I use it regularly for watering the garden and when pressure washing the cars. It folds down into the little bag it came in so takes no space at all. Great.carly said:I've never had to empty my expanding hose in the 10 years I've had it. Another vote for Hozelock expanding hose. I have lots of pots and containers and having to lug about a heavy traditional hose in between them was no fun at all. The expanding hose is a lot more manoeuvrable.0

Yes, it's the one on a trolley. The open trolley, not the enclosed one.Annie1960 said:

Hozelock cheap hoses dont last. Expandable ones cant usually replace the ends. I have 3 hozelocks one at home 2 on allotment and I only now use hozelock sprayers as you can get parts the other ones break after a year or two and cant ever buy new seals0
