the p/w file is stored in the sam database and you will find it c:\WINDOWS\system32\config\ the file is called sam no extension and the passwords are encrypted. please see private msg for the rest as there may be an easier way.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

What was the file name or to be more accurate what was after the "." extension.

If it was .ISO or .BIN/.CUE

You have to burn the CD/DVD as an image or it will not be bootable.

Nero or any CD burning software should be able to do that.

YOU DO NOT BURN THE INDIVIDUAL FILES TO CD/DVD

Having said that I have not seen what you have but the above is a educated guess on what you need to do.

Sounds like you are getting there, so relax and it should all be fixed soon.

Trouble is some people take for granted the knowledge they have and what seems simple to them can be total jibberish to someone else.

You can't give up now. You're almost there!

All you need to create the bootable CD is a copy of Roxio, Nero or something similar. Basic versions of these are given away free with CD and DVD drives... There's even Open Source versions that really are free, though I suspect they are mainly designed for Linux, not Windows...

you have tried burning the cd, with the cd in place start up the pc, but insted af pressing f2 pres the F12 key this for a few seconds should give yo a boot menu - it does not work on all dell laptops - choose the cd option.

Dont give up, this part is the easy bit.

Let me see what I can find I know I have something somewhere, but I have never used it as I don't set passwords.

Take a look at this site, it has a free program and instructions.

If you PM me I will tell you how to burn the disk, but you need to have Nero or some other CD/DVD burning software.

You also need to set the BIOS to boot from CD/DVD and look for instructions on bootup, something like "Press any key to boot from CD"
