In the morning i would explain the situation to the call handler and ask to speak to the CEO/MD of the frim to ask for an explanation.
There'll be a designated complaints partner for this sort of thing, should have been given the details with the terms of business etc at the start.

Yes of course but i would want the head of the firm to know how his staff are treating people.

They'll know that via the operation of their complaints procedure, it's not somehow kept secret from them.

Do you mean COMPLETE on a Friday?  Exchanging on a Friday is not a problem, because if exchange  doesn't happen, no breach of contract has taken place.  However, a simultaneous exchange and completion on a Friday when money transfers are not started early enough certainly can cause problems, as has happened here.

    I'm assuming you mean complete.

The majority of transactions complete on Friday. The majority of which go through without a hitch. Unfortunately though the OP was one of those unfortunate ones.

Curious if they've managed to find out what went wrong.

Captain hindsight here. Friday late afternoon is always a bad time to exchange. Hope solicitor didn't run off with the money.

Surely it's a great time to "exchange".

Exhange Friday. Complete monday. Job done.

If it's true that most completions happen on a Monday then things have changed substantially since I was in private practice and since I last bought property. It's historically always been Friday for completion, as my poor feet can attest - I used to walk miles around the city on Fridays to physically conduct completions by handing over actual paperwork and actual bank drafts. All the conveyancing firms knew one another and no-one left their offices until all completions were, well, complete.

I'd always been under the impression that Friday was completion day so that people could take the minimum time off work to move house, in the days when many jobs had very little, if any, paid time off.

    Good grief, I'm so old!

Here's hoping OP is too busy settling in to their new home to update us.

I think the poster meant that most completions happen on Friday? We moved only about 18 months ago and solicitor/removers said avoid Friday as it's always busy (I already knew that).

People think they can move Friday and unpack over the weekend and only use on day's holiday (assuming they don't work weekends), so it's convenient. But I've always refused Fridays for the reason in this thread, plus it's harder to get removals and you can haggle more if it's a Tuesday or Wednesday. :)
