as some of you may know I'm here (sometimes) offering advice on motor related issues. priced up a windscreen for a 10 yr old citreon c4 this morning. £971.00! 
some car parts are now becoming much more exspensive for some reason, and more difficult to source particularly glass items.
so, when you insure your car, make sure you have screen cover. for the extra 20-30 quid its worth it.

I though all comprehensive(?) cover includes windscreen cover as standard, subject to an excess? At least my Aviva policy does, and I don't remember choosing to pay extra for windscreen cover (its a fully comp policy).

yes, I'm with aviva too. for my pension and my car insurance, and yes screen cover is inclusive. but with some companies its optional extra.

Thank you, yes, this is good advice because throughout my years of driving - 36 - I've had many car insurance policies and they all do vary. You really do have to ensure that you read all the print, large and small because some policies don't include windscreen cover. Some of them offer it as an extra but I always do ensure that it's included in mine. 

And also, if I do ever have a small chip in the windscreen I always try to get it fixed as quickly as possible so it doesn't crack the whole screen. Is that still free for those with comprehensive insurance? I remember seeing the ad a while ago.

No they don't all cover it. Just another thing for we motorists to be aware of really. You might think you're covered with a fully comprehensive policy but it isn't always the case.

It used to be free but Aviva now charge a £10 excess for chip repairs (windscreen replacement is around £75 excess). No idea if other insurers have begun charging an excess for chip repairs.

LV do - I had 2 chip repairs during the 1st lockdown last year, despite limited traffic on the roads. Fortunate that it could be repaired, as there weren't any windscreens available for my car in the UK at the time...

Also be aware that many insurers specifically exclude glass panoramic sunroofs from their cover.

Some are fairly upfront about it in their general policy description but many hide the fact deep in their policies and is easily overlooked.

To take an alternative viewpoint - I've been driving for over 35 years, always paid the extra for windscreen cover (where it wasn't included as standard) and never had to make a claim.  So overall I'm down on the deal.  My son had to replace his windscreen a couple of years back (an old Toyota Yaris), he didn't have windscreen cover, we got a local guy out and he replaced it for £150.

Like any insurance, it's worth it if you need it :-)   I guess if you've got a more modern car, windscreens can be pretty expensive - particularly, I should image, if they're heated.  But it's a gamble at the end of the day as to whether it's worth it - though it does give you peace of mind.

I presume that's a panoramic screen that curves round into the roof?

They've always been expensive.

And, yes, the vast majority of comp insurance includes glass cover... unless you've simply found the absolute cheapest policy on a comparison engine without looking deeper, and you've been Ryanair'd...

yes its a large screen which then meets the panoramic roof. dread to think how much the actual glass roof would be. glad its not my car.
