  • Don't know re Motorola phones, but in the Playstore settings there is an option to update apps. only via wifi and to not automatically update. If automatic update and via data and wifi are enabled then that could use up data unknowingly.
Ah, but does that stop the phone checking (via mobile data) to see if an update is available as well as disabling the download/application of the update itself?

See also if there’s a low data mode which stops a lot of parasitic processes

"However, I'm still finding that I'm using up data - without me actually using the phone when out and about. I switch Mobile Data on when I leave the house and turn it off when I return."

You can send/receive calls/sms without mobile data. Why switch on mobile data when you go out if you're not actually using the phone?

I don't think these very low data packs you are buying were ever designed for Android 9 devices. Your phone lauches a lot of apps when it boots up. These apps are often the culprits.

    The rwgmobile offering looks good.

Thanks. Emails and Whatsapp messages need mobile internet, I believe, when away from wifi.

Me and the family now use Whatsapp almost exclusively, rather that texting. That is the biggest reason for me to start an EE Pack.

I'm now wondering if I just need to wait for my first Boost, in ten weeks, then hopefully I can get so much more data that this problem will simply go away. My wife has a Moto G8, on the same Pack for a couple of years now and she has plenty of data, text and phone time, so this problem I'm having simply isn't there. She hasn't turned off any Background Data.

I can't remember, but perhaps she did what I'm doing now. Keep mobile internet off unless I really need it, then eventually a Boost arrives that provides enough data so that mobile internet can be left always on.
