Pay date for August

Hi all, wondered if you could assist.  Pay day falls for me on 31st this morning, which is a Tuesday.  My husband said it would go into our account on the Friday or Saturday due to processing times etc and Monday being a bank hols.

Is this correct? Thank you!

It'll depend on which bank you're with, as there used to be quite a few that operated that way, but not many anymore, I believe....

I wouldn't have thought so.  Do you get paid early if the 31st falls on a Monday?
    :p
  • Yes, normally it would go in on a friday if it falls on a bank holiday Monday. Just wondered if banks need a day to process it wouldn’t be the bank holiday bank, so may go in friday. I see his logic!

I bank with Barclays and normally do get paid earlier if payday falls on a Monday.
  • I have a contract for payday on the 28th of a month but a study of my payslips actually defines payday on there as month ending last working day. Go figure, which trumps which.

Myself personally I'm going with payday as 31st.

With the 2nd May bank holiday I got paid on the Friday but back then the very last working day was the bank hol Monday so with last working day being a Tuesday this time around, I'm not getting my hopes up for Friday.

Your employer has sent it to be paid on Monday so you are not actually being paid earlier, you are just being given access to it earlier by Barclays.

No, you'd get paid on Tuesday 31st.

Your work would just submit the bacs files to process on the Friday rather than Monday.

    I very much doubt it.

My pay day is the last day of the month, and has been for well over 30 years. When payday has fallen on a weekend or public holiday, I've found that I get my money on the last working day before payday. However, that doesn't apply in this case, since 31 August is, as you say, a Tuesday. Based on many years' past experience, I'm not expecting to see my money until 31 August. Having a public holiday on the Monday has never affected a Tuesday payday before for me.

Having said that, it's possible that your payer might choose to pay early. This would, however, surprise me.
  • Thanks everyone.
