Road Tax sorted by the dealer?

Options
Picking my car up from dealer soon, do I sort out the road tax or does the dealer sort that out when I pick it up? Bit confused as before I bought with cash privately.

Dealer should sort it, as you need the V5 (or roadtax reminder) and you won't have either just now.

You need to ask the dealer.  There is no reason why they can't do it, anyone can do it with the V5C2 reference, but some will not until they have the cash from you in their hands - depends on the size of the dealership. With my previous car they paid as it was only £30 but no such luck with the last one for £150, they fronted the price but put it on the bill.

The simple answer is to ask the dealer, mine has always done it on the day of collection while they are doing the paper work and hand over.

The dealer may well need evidence of insurance before they tax it, but the vehicle is usually taxed as part of the handover process.

    Brand new or 2nd hand?

2nd hand they may want you to pay it. So you will have to do it online while you are there on their systems.

As per previous comments, ask the dealer.  No reason they can't tax it for you (though you'll need to make sure you've got insurance in place beforehand).  Every time I've bought a new (well, used) car, they always ask "Do you want us to sort the tax out for you" (and if you like haggling, you can try and persuade them to pay for it!).  But even if they don't want to for some reason, it's very easy to do online whilst you're sat there sorting out the paperwork, only takes a couple of minutes.

Did the price include road tax? If not then they may be expecting you to sort the tax yourself otherwise they'd end up paying for it. Phone them and ask.

Sorting my insurance today. Don't have a printer so hopefully they will accept email as proof.
