I wonder if they are trying to help the friend without the friend knowing (I'm not suggesting any wrong-doing on the part of the OP here) and the organisations suggested in the other thread won't deal with the OP.

I'm sure the OP could word his/her issue in a thread by changing information.

MSE James has explained who will be able to see the email address (MSE staff only).

    Never a good idea. More likely to lead to partial, incomplete, or inaccurate information as the full circumstances may not be known or may be presented in a confused / misleading manner.

   Far better to help and support the "friend" to get accredited advice from their local advice agency. Benefit advice can be complicated, and it may be crucial that it is correct.

Just going from the OP's last thread where they were 'asking for a friend' and suggesting why they've not followed your advice from that thread.
Of course, it may be that the OP is looking for advice on a totally different topic.

It may be a different topic, but it's obviously still benefits advice to post on this bit of the forum which is why I wondered why here again rather than the other sources which will still be relevant and also more confidential.

No it isn't visisble to everyone. Personal information like email addresses are not allowed to be posted on the forums for saftely reasons. ( which is the same for all forums) It would be ridiculous if email addresses were visible to everyone.

I've checked your profile just now and don't see your email address - which is what I expected anyway, but wanted to reassure you.  Other than your chosen username, your personal details, such as your email address and DOB, are only visible to the MSE staff - but even these are only what you enter.

So if you want to change any of your details, then feel free.  You could even use a disposable email address, however MSE account recovery becomes much harder as they usually need to send an email to the address you registered with to reset your password.

One final note.  I can hardly see DWP (if these are the people you are worried about) contacting MSE for your details.  I'd imagine the only people that MSE would give your details out to would be the emergency services in the event you posed a threat to your own life or anybody else's.
