Vodafone can install broadband - others cannot

I enquired recently with Plusnet, TalkTalk and Shell Energy about having broadband installed and it would appear that all were unable to due to technical issues. Something to do with the local exchange or telephone cabling in the local area - not entirely sure.

I tried Vodafone and it would appear that they can install broadband. If these non-Virgin Media suppliers are all essentially using the same infrastructure (I presume), how is it that Vodafone can install my broadband but the others cannot?

It might be that Vodafone are using Cityfibre infrastructure (rather than Openreach) to provide you with a service. What does the Cityfibre checker here show?

Also what does the BT/Openreach checker show? (use your property no/postcode if tel number isn't recognized)

  • Cityfibre not available.

    Openreach checker states:

As a fibre priority exchange, FTTP has priority over other products if available at the address.
WLR is currently available at the exchange.
SOADSL is restricted at the exchange.

Cheers. Does the BT checker not give you any availability info on VDSL (FTTC), FTTP or ADSL services, like this?

Yep, that's it. It appears you can 'only' get Openreach full fibre (FTTP), up to 1000/220 Mbps, so you will need to order from the likes of BT, EE, Zen, IDNet etc in addition to Vodafone. Forget about Plusnet or Shell, they don't offer FTTP yet. TalkTalk do offer FTTP over Openreach but its not nationwide just yet.
    HTH.
