Parcel insurance -high value items

I need to send a couple of electrical items to buyers in the UK and wonder if there is a better value insurance arrangement than using the insurance provided by the parcel courier.
The items in question are valued at £1500 and £5500. The cost of delivery with one of the more reputable couriers is under £10 per parcel, but the insurance for the more expensive parcel bumps up the price to more than £300!
Is there any viable alternative to these ridiculously high insurance costs?
Thanks

RM Special can be insured up to £2,500 so is probably the best option for your cheaper item if it’s within the size limit.
If you want insurance for the £5,500 item then it’s going to cost you… make sure whatever you’re sending isn’t an excluded item for insurance purposes. Be very careful if using a broker (Parcel Monkey etc) as the insurance levels and excluded items can be different from those of the carrier. You can buy insurance from third parties but you’d have to do your homework to see if a given service is suitable and reputable, here’s one such provider:

Secursus look interesting, and a fraction of the cost of courier insurance. They have quite a few requirements, such as taking photos of the packaging, and only to use one of the more reputable couriers. It remains to be seen how straightforward a claim may be. We have a claim from a pet insurance company that is dragging on for ages, on the other hand a travel insurance claim with another company was settled in 5 working days from emailing the receipts… payment for insurance is the easy part, finding a company that will pay out reasonably promptly in the case of a claim is altogether a different matter.
Royal Mail and Parcel Force have been easy to deal with in the past, one was a case of a lost/stolen parcel and one damaged in transit.0 -
This company is a scam: it doesn't report to its insurer the packages that are supposed to be covered, refuses to disclose the identity of its insurer, doesn't respond to lawyers' requests, doesn't comply with the legal requirement to use a neutral mediation service, produces fake documents
