T-shirt inappropriate for work?

It's also worth noting that in this case the worker was not an employee of the client and was only on-site at the behest of the client.TELLIT01 said:The OP either can't, or more likely won't, see that this isn't really about the T-shirt. It's about conforming to what is required by an employer. That may be dress code, hours of work or a million and one other things. An employee cannot just act as they wish if they wish to remain employed.

I suspect the OP has achieved what he set out to do. Start a controversial topic, sit back and read the reactions before having another little comment made to provoke further, sit back and repeat.
Looks to have achieved what he set out to do.7 -
Aye - no harm in having a natter about things, though. :-)Jaybee_16 said:I suspect the OP has achieved what he set out to do. Start a controversial topic, sit back and read the reactions before having another little comment made to provoke further, sit back and repeat.

Indeed, it's certainly served to make me more aware of attitudes employees can take a d if I'm ever in a managerial position I'll try not to think too deeply about letting toxics go1

There's plenty of individuals in the world of work with intransigent views. Remember dealing with one lady who refused to take her annual leave. Then was surprised and extremely irate with being putting on an Employee Performance Improvement Plan.Jaybee_16 said:I suspect the OP has achieved what he set out to do. I'm wondering what stirring I can do at work by deciding my employer can and can't tell me....
Let's see - we've had people inform (not ask) that they won't be working certain days and shifts.
We've had people decide that they don't like certain duties that everyone else does so refuse to do them.
We've had people ignore dress code up to and including not wearing masks when away from their desk over the last year.
We've had people decide that they should belong to work groups that mean they are not available for scheduled BAU and not bother to inform their manager of the fact.
We've had people decide that they don't need to return to work after lunch because they ran into a friend and went to the pub or it was a nice day so it was more fun to go to the beach.
And they wonder why they are on a PIP or otherwise are having an exit out managed for them.
I think I'm just to much of a people pleaser to cause too much fuss. Besides I like having a decent salary.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. That can only happen if the employer/HR is also not doing their job properly. An employer can dictate when an employee takes holiday, and if the employee still turns up for work on those dates they should be removed from the premises.

We did have one individual who asked that he not be forced to take all his holidays due to his mental health. There were no concerns about him trying to cover any fraudulent activity which is often why people don't want to disconnect from work so it was allowed.TELLIT01 said:Thrugelmir said:

Even then, they should still be able to come to a mutual agreement of how/when leave was taken, even if just one day every few weeks, or reduced daily hours.
I can understand anxiety around being asked (expected) to take whole weeks at a time, if you feel (know) you're just going to come back to a backlog!!
Been there, done that!! - Got the t-shirt!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)1 -
Backlogs are easy to avoid with the WFH that's been done over the last year. It wasn't that but the being alone that was the issue, it was an individual who needed the company of others.Sea_Shell said
