DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Hello lovelies
@beanielou it was definitely harder to chant through lockdown but you can always return when/if you wantI definitely needed it after the 'friend' saga to recentre and remind myself her behaviour is about her and not a reflection of me - I will try to have a conversation though rather than just storming off - I dont want to but that is the very reason I will.
I have not called her as yet I will wait til later in the week when she is probably back home rather than with Mr Gaslighter.Merlin's_Beard said:Sometimes all you can do with friends with terrible partners is wait them out and then decide if you have the grace to help them pick up the pieces...!
@savingholmes it was amazingI also bought a very fabulous teatowel from it - first xmas gift for my mum Dec 2023. I want to try and buy as I go now this year so less panicking and spending loads in the last month.
@DrCarrie so far I am focusing on my 2023 goals and picked out 3 goals as January focus - the study (and my daily declutter of items), my fitness and getting work done. Plus a creative goal that is important but is getting sidelined already annoyingly.
Updates are
Declutter...Argh - nothing like having so much stuff pulled out. The study looks worse than Saturday morning when I was waiting for the new unit as pulling stuff out..
I am sticking to the minimalist game - so 16 things as the 16th today to declutter - done about 8 bits of paperwork already so more to go through. Gave a friend some excess toiletries I didnt need.
I put my large fridge freezer on FB - had loads enquiries but decided to go with one who had dm'd me first - he was supposed to turn up yesterday - and then didnt - I chased up at 7pm when he was supposed to arrive and he said his friends car had broke down but he could definitely do tonight - I looked and he is Ukrainian so I will give him one more day or if not I will offer it to whoever can come get it first - asking £50 which is a bargain as it works great and full size freezer.
I have too many chairs including a ugly but serviceable office chair - I may offer it to my neighbours or see if I can get £10 on FB - I was gifted a mess one on wheels so I really dont need it.
Very impressed with myself I ebayed!
Due to ebay reduced selling fees listing weekend I added 24 items to ebay yesterday - it took hours! Now let's hope it all sells, I have had one bid so far on a £9 small thing (I am paying for postage but at least I am clearing stuff up . I need to sort out the ebay boxes and packaging corner it is a mess along with old boxes I stuff I do own. I could add some more today but not think I have the time with all else I need to do today.
I did make £200 from that new equipment I won - they picked it up yesterday (they getting a £80 saving on a brand new one year warranty thing) so they were v happy - I really wanted to keep it myself as it has some features my 6 x more expensive one doesnt but I dont need it. I also have the original equipment I bought last summer so I have now also put that on ebay - declutter is 2023.
I have finally heard back from the competition I won with the large gift voucher for a specialist store - as has been radio silence for over 10 days - so looks like that is happening -very happy - I may see if I can sell that for less than face value obviously - or buy something from the store and sell that .. I don't need such an expensive thing - I love keeping my competition wins if I will use them loads and love winning experiences, and often gift a lot of my wins as gifts so I rarely sell them but I have a house deposit and a SIPP to fund .. and a flat full of too much stuff.
Free Money £204 so far..
£4 returned as my nephew got the same book twice so Amazon have refunded but said I can keep it - I will see if my sister wants to add to a bday present or give to charity - or try Ziffit with others..
£200 received cash from sale - sitting in a free money envelope right now waiting for it to be added to)
+ £50 hopefully from fridge freezer + maybe £500+ for my voucher
+ hopefully £250 plus from ebay items - I have a very expensive never worn dress with tags on there plus some other stuff so
DIY class starts tomorrow - Tuesdays Plumbing and Thurs CarpentryI may need a few weeks of carpentry to have the confidence put together that bl**** unit that has turned up in a flatpack - I will ask my credit card company first if I can get sale cancelled as there was no mention or pics of flatpack..
Breadmaker ....
I have also got a new from auction bread maker (£45 and includes a capsule coffee machine in the lot)- I did manage to get my parent's gifted one to sort of work with GF after all that - it was tasty and cheaper than shop bought GF bread that runs at £3+ as GF flour 1kg is about £1.75 and I could get 2- 2.5 loaves from it
I will test the new breadmaker which does have GF recipes specifically and then try to sell the old one.
The loaf I made yesterday I followed the machine instructions as opposed to the actual GF flour pack instructions (for a machine) as the latter was a disaster and had to be thrown away as it wasnt mixed or cooked properly. I also had it on for much longer ...
Shopping
Still at £105.40/ £145 + £12.10/ 30 Grocery Challenge
Twice at the weekend I walked into a shop, picked up food - then looked at queues and put it back and walked out. Mr L queue yesterday was insane and it was about £20+ of food including a FR chicken. So I am impressed with myself.
I am aware I am down to £30 left - all now in cash for the rest of the month plus bulk - which is very unlikely - however I do have loads food in the freezer and HM meals so I am aiming to eat my way down a bit first. I still will probably bust the budget or have to hit my bulk fund but think I am still on Xmas spending vibes
I will need more chicken and loads more veg by mid week but lets see how far I can stretch this.DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)

DIY starts again
10 week course in plumbing and a further 10 weeks of carpentry - we even get 2 certificates.Today we measured, cut pipes and used joints with olives - no soldering sadly .. I do enjoy getting the blow torch out - only ever used one once but it was a lot of fun !!The teacher says I can take wood and cut to size for my hall cupboard shelving .. which is good as I would rather cut wood with a jigsaw when someone is tutoring me .. plus I still have to workout the logistics of the shelves. It will solve some storage issues.
i also have had advice on putting that unit together - the accidental flatpack - basically glue as well as nail the back bit for added strength. No time for the gym today - got up too late and had to leave home at 5.30 for class - I did choose to walk there and back so that was an hours walkMy 17 things to declutter today (as 17th of the month) was largely from the bottom shelf in my hall cupboard and included 2015 tax returns, some carpet underlay, some broken plastic CD covers .. yesterday declutter 16 ranged from the huge fridge freezer to a couple receipts
- if I stay on track that’s nearly 500 things in Jan. then I will start again
I am now eyeing up an old office chair I never use and is ugly ..
I have put it on freecycle but won’t count it til it leaves.
There is something about the daily habit of finding things to declutter that’s very satisfying
Its the study and hall cupboard that are my current bugbears - once done and eBay stuff complete then I can move around some bedroom paperwork into there and reorganise that.My new to me bedside cupboard with all my makeup laid out in narrow drawers is proving v useful and easy to keep tidy as there is a place for everything.I managed a NSD today woohootomorrow I need to see if Waitrose has lavazza eco caps and also any GF bread flour. They replaced my 2 year old Le creuset travel mug - which is amazing for holding heat. The lid had snapped so ..
