The pandemic is ongoing and needs to be paid for. Those that travel need to factor the cost into their plans.Butts said:
I'm not talking about raising it, but using it to help provide free tests for travellers as a lot of other Countries do.bagand96 said:
A raise of APD likely wouldn’t go down well either...Butts said:
In that case why not utilise the APD only the passenger is paying for flying ?mattyprice4004 said:I don't want my taxes paying for your holiday tests - if you're going on holiday you can afford a few quid more for your tests privately.
It's not rocket science and this question has been asked over and over since day 1.0 -
Hopefully not for to much longer ,as the efficacy of the testing seems pretty hard to justify in the long term.Thrugelmir said:

Maybe the tests won’t be required but the debts are going to take many years even decades to repay. The insurance companies will be factoring it in to their premiums.Butts said:

The costs aren’t just going to disappear in 2022.
travel agents, hoteliers, airlines, airports, taxi drivers even public transport will need to balance their books.
I would expect to pay more.
I have a holiday which moved from 2020 (booked pre-pandemic) and I’m not yet sure everyone will be able to afford to go when we eventuality get to go to Asia.0 -
APD is a departure tax whereas what we are talking about is a returning issue... if I book a one way flight to somewhere why should I pay more in departure tax to pay for return PCR tests?Butts said:

For those with return tickets how do you deal with those that booked their ticket a year ago before the change in APD or those booking now for a years time when the tests are hopefully abolished?
Personally I think the day 2 and day 8 tests should be bought from a single governmental source at a fixed cost given these are the mandatory tests. Day 5 tests, anything needed for outbound requirements etc should be private market because these are not mandated by the government and different travellers will have different needs.0
