Motor legal protection

Hi,
I am looking for some guidance from someone who might know the best way to deal with this situation. In December 2019 my wife and I got into a car accident on the M25, and the matter was resolved with the other party being at fault. We also received some money for our personal injury through a no-win no-fee solicitor that the insurance company arranged for on our behalf, although the solicitor took a 30%. I've since changed car insurance company and I was reading up on motor legal protection insurance as I am due a renewal in September. It then suddenly occurred to me that in 2019 I was insured with Acorn and I 100% had paid for Motor Legal Protection (£35 or so). On that basis, should I not be due a refund of the 30% from the motor legal insurance?
I am really confused about what this policy covers and doesn't cover, and there isn't anywhere I can find crystal clear guidance on it. I called Acorn and they keep giving me the number for a different department to call and I'm just being passed around! No one seems to know the answer or willing to help....
Thank you for comments in advance!

Acorn are your brokers, your motor insurance will be with an insurance company (aka underwriter) and the MLP could be with the same insurer or a different one. It sounds like your solicitors were not instructed under your MLP because of the fact it was done as conditional funding and you paid a success fee. Depending who the parties are it may or may not be reasonable that that was done... ie if your motor policy was placed with ERS but your MLP was placed with Das its very possible that ERS have no idea you have MLP if they were the ones that referred you to a no-win, no fee outfit.
I am however guessing its Acorn who as your brokers should have know however I see that they say "MLP is included as standard" but there are no links to policy wordings and not all policies are created equal and freebies can often have more exceptions than paid for policies (though not always)0
