Hello Compers,
Hope your week's going smoothly.
You might have noticed already - a bug's been fixed so that the 'Search Subcategories' tickbox works properly now. It means you can filter out subcategories (Compers Chat Corner, I won! I won! I won! etc) from your searches.
Best wishes,

So rather than being able to use the tickbox to filter subcategories out, it looks to me as if the logic applied is:
If 'Search Subcategories' is ticked, search only subcategories
If 'Search Subcategories' is not ticked, search category and (certain threads from) subcategories
Re. this second criteria, the search is pulling through two threads from 'Game Over' when the subcategory search returns many pages so it's not pulling through all subcategory results, just some select ones?
Also to make sure it's on your radar, when I did the search without 'Search Subcategories' ticked, I had six results returned but the page looks as if there are 10k results:
The 'Next' button being available indicates this might be the case too and I can click through to subsequent pages of results which are blank.

It NEARLY Works - Searching "jazz fm" with the box unticked shows the potential.
The fault found by Rahven is actually more subtle:
With the box unticked, it fails to suppress search results where the search term appears in the second or subsequent posts of a thread
In Rahven's first illustration, the Topcashback thread in Game Over should not be returned by search, but "john lewis" appears on page 15 of that thread HERE, and the Take a Break issue 41 thread in Game Over has "john lewis" in post #2 of the thread HERE
.

@Rahven and @One-Eye, huge thanks for looking this over. Really appreciate the screenshots and links. Good spot about the second and subsequent instances, One-Eye.
I've passed this over to the Product Team along with lots of other search term examples so they can pass it onto the developers.
Rahven - a great point about the unusually high number count. It's an issue I flagged along with others when the new search came out. No update on that one yet, but it's one the developers are aware of.
Thanks again,

SEARCH is failing to work properly. This is a brand new problem as it has been working properly until today (apart from the original problem already noted above). Something must have changed.
Problem was originally found by searching for "jazz fm" for which there should be at least one competition each week, but it finds only one competition after June 14:

Specific examples with the search URL followed by the thread that it should find but does not:

I'm sorry about the new issues with the search. Thanks so much @One-Eye for the thorough information and examples. I can confirm I'm not able to find those particular posts via search either.
I've created a report for the Forum's developers so they can look into this.
Please let me know if you spot any other examples.
Thank you,

This latest fault is really serious
This search shows the scale of the problem, and might also give a clue to what is going wrong.

This is searching for all posts by One-Eye during October.
It finds 39 posts, 35 of which are replies by One-Eye, and only 4 which are threads started by One-Eye - which all happen to be competitions ending 22/11 and would have been moved to Game Over earlier today.
I estimate it is missing over 200 threads started by One-Eye which would be in Game Over or Competitions Time.
examples it is not finding are:
From Competitions Time:
1) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6307840 also not found by searching for "cocotte"
2) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6307834 also not found by searching for "tuscany"
3) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6303300 also not found by searching for "lightweight"
From Game Over:
4) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6305555 also not found by searching for "meadowhall"
5) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6305361 also not found by searching for "barbican"
6) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6305344 also not found by searching for "diwali"
Nearly every competition thread contains the word "win". Searching "win" for the first week of October also seems to find replies but not threads. It is missing hundreds of threads.

@MSE_Laura_F could you ask the techie guys to reverse whatever they've done to cause this major fault URGENTLY?
Just when we thought we could cope with the search, bookmarking the settings that @One-Eye sorted out for us. GGRRRRRRRRR
Just as Advents are going to start to kick-in, we may as well give up now!!!!#StaySafeWishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year4 -
I'm sorry for the new issues, all. I've reported this and I'm staying on the case.
I can definitely appreciate the poor timing ahead of the Advent comp period too.
