Unpaid Parking Charge

My son was working away last December and for the duration of 4 days stayed at a Travel Lodge. He parked his car on the Travel Lodge Car park. He got 4 parking tickets issued by a private company. We ignored the constant letters, every other week they changed to a different name, but the money only went up once. Then we thought they had given up, but he then received 3 letters from yet another Company dcbl, still for the same amount. Is this ever going to stop? Does he have to pay?? Please help as he is getting fed up with the constant harassment.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

The real question is why did your son get those tickets.

Was he supposed to pay for parking but failed to do so?

Ignoring private parking tickets hasn't been a good idea since 2012.

You need to start by reading the Newbies Sticky at the top of this forum to inform yourselves properly about what you need to do to see this off.

Also, why has he not taken this-up with Travelodge themselves if he was staying in the place?  Although TBH, this is best done sooner rather than later, ie before the debt vultures start circling.

Which company issued the original ticket?

Thank you for getting back to me,
He did take it up with Travelodge and was told to pay the fine then reclaim it. It started with Uk Parking Control Ltd last Dec, but since then there have been a few different companies.

The invoices remain with UKPC , the others are powerless debt collectors

Should have been appealed at the time , not ignored !!

UKPC have 6 years to chase up the alleged debts and take it to a court claim in your local county court , so 8 months from a total of 72 months is nothing

    Hello and thank you,
He was working away from home and for the 4 nights stayed at a Travelodge and parked on their car park. He wasn't given anything to put in his window to say he was a paying guest staying there.

Chance are that he should have registered the vehicle at reception on an iPad terminal or similar

Failure to do so resulted in 4 PCN s

Ignoring was very foolish , this could end up in Court within the next 5.25 years

    Which Travelodge?

    Were there no signs?

Surely everyone expects to pay for parking these days.

Tell your son the golden rule is

Expect to pay for permission to park a vehicle anywhere in the UK , unless permission is sought and granted , or paid for , or no parking restrictions exist

Drivers are expected to read and obey all signs when driving or parking , regardless !!

UKPC will have signs around the car park , showing the conditions and rules for parking just the same as council's
