Are Asda Mobile really completely hopeless?
I'm in the process of moving my number from Vodafone Basics to Asda Mobile and, rather too late it could be argued, I've been reading all sorts of bad reviews about them.
I suspect it all went wrong when they moved their underlying network from EE to Vodafone and that most of the negative reviews relate to that move, so I'm hoping all will go ok for me.
My understanding was that Asda Mobile were quite good previously - makes you wonder why they moved network again having done it about ten years ago and made most of their customers unhappy from what I have read.
So, are there any positive experiences of Asda Mobile out there?!

I moved an ASDA Mobile account from their EE service to Vodafone a couple of months ago. Have had no problems either before the move or since. Have also used wi-fi calling and get an occasional 5G signal. Only had to contact their support service (by telephone) once, to sort out linking a top-up card, dealt with by efficient, friendly operator. So all positive so far.1

I recently helped an elderly friend move from Tesco Mobile to Asda Mobile, without issue. We did everthing online from activating sim, porting number and setting up her monthly £4 talk and text bundle, with which she's s extremely pleased.Yes they've had problems migrating people from EE to Vodafone, but they seem to be fine with their usual business and procedures.1

I've migrated two PAYG Asda EE over to the new Asda Voda network, no problems whatever and it all went as scheduled, including transfer of credit balances

OP here
Thanks for those replies
I was reassured to find that the porting of my number to Asda Mobile took place by 9am on the appointed day so that's a good start.1 -
Just wanted to add my experience. I was holding the migration after reading all sorts of problems people were having but finally decided to do it this week. It all went well: I lost signal about 1pm so I swapped my SIM cards and my phone number was already working on the Vodafone network. No issues at all and I am now enjoying my free bundle. I was also worried about the signal coverage but it seems to be as good as the previous one so happy overall so I will remain being a happy ASDA mobile customer

My wife is unable to access Data Roaming since receiving the new Asda Vodafone Sim because network settings have to be changed manually. By reference to the Asda website network settings for an i phone do not clearly concur with her phone. Numerous telephone calls to their helpline have been unhelpful, the first operator told her to reset network settings which takes it back to Vodafone settings and hung up but those settings are wrong. We e mailed asda customer support over a week ago with details of the problem and phone only to receive a reply stating they would try to help if we gave details of the phone! We have not received any further contact since so my wife has been without any data roaming since going abroad 3 weeks ago. If anyone knows the correct network settings for an i phone SE it would be appreciated, however i am not convinced Asda has set the SIM up for data roamimg despite saying they have.0

OP here
Since moving to Asda Mobile, after three weeks I found that I couldn't use the £15 credit I'd added to buy a bundle. Tried lots of times. Emailed them. No reply. I've left and gone to BT Mobile. I wouldn't touch Asda Mobile with a bargepole - to answer my original question, yes, Asda Mobile are completely hopeless!0 -
The Customer services from ASDA mobile is generally poor. However, the ASDA (Vodafone) is even worse.
Examples of poor services:
1. They can barely communicate when contacting the Egyptian call centre.
2. Seem to operate in their own bubble of procedures without having any regard for the problem at hand. For example sending text messages for data protection procedure knowing full well there is a signal issue.
3. Look for excuses rather than dealing with the issue at hand like turning off voicemail.
I have been with some really poor telecom companies such as NTL but the ASDA (Vodafone) takes the biscuit. I never thought, after dealng with telecom companies for over thirty years, that you could find a service worse than NTL.0 -
