I wonder if anyone with experience of this could help. My mum uses O2 and I always top up her phone £10 a month, but recently she got a text offering a £5/month bundle, which suited her needs. I put her onto that package online, start date being today. I login in to her account, and it's not possible to pay less than £10. What's going on here? I ended up having to add £10, and she says she got a text congratulating her on her £5 bundle! It cost me a tenner. Is this some scam? I don't understand how this works. Auto top-up option on the site is min £10/month too.

Even though you have put £10 on,02 will only take £5 of that,so you will only have to put £10 on every two months
  • Will that work, and she won't get a text next month telling her to top up her bundle? I'm sceptical about companies, but if it works like you say then it's okay.

It will work. You cant put £5 a month on,as it is a minimum top up of £10 required by 02. I was on a tarrif like this with them years ago,and they only took £5 a month

A £10 minimum top up is required for all Bundles, including on the £5 Big Bundle. When you've topped up, we'll automatically swap your credit for your Big Bundle, which will last for one month.

Any out of bundle charges incurred will be deducted from your credit so that means you'll need to top up £10 to activate your £5 Big Bundle again if you have used any of your credit before your Big Bundle renewal date.

If you do not incur any out of bundle charges, you will still have £5 available credit and your £5 Big Bundle will automatically renew in the following month.

  • Thanks for the replies, that's straightened it out for me. Though, I think it's odd logic to offer a £5 bundle but with a min top-up of £10, but whatever.

Indeed it is strange logic.  The pitfall as mentioned above is that every other month you are going to have that £5 credit sitting in jeopardy - 1 mistaken out of bundle call or text & bang goes the renewal of the bundle, then the reminder of the credit will follow tout suite!

I would strongly recommend Lebara if Vodafone's signal is good - £4.95 by PayPal or Credit Card each month gets you 3GB data, unlimited UK calls & texts (note texts limited to 200/day apparently) & 100 international minutes to 41 countries!  No out of bundle items possible unless you choose to top up. ;) I have my mum & aunt both on that.  About to move my uncle to 10GB for £6.95.

If you don't need so much allowance, 2GB + 1000min + 1000 texts is £5, but you can get 3 months half price.
