Look at separate suppliers for gas and electric. And look at the whole of market on the comparison sites - Which and Citizens Advice
I assume you credit is based on the regular monthly readings you've been giving -Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
My readings - yes, I've checked with MSE energy club' and U switch and can't get anything cheaper, currently with Avro and queries are taking 2 to 4 weeks! Makes me wonder if it will increase by £2 a week until I sign up next cheapest on U switch is nearly £90 a month0

Are you looking at actual prices or estimates ??

They have overestimated my usage - gas is based on 13738 kwh (I have just worked it out to 13676) & electric 2087 (my estimate is 1947) based on average over previous 10 months on electric and added June x 2 for gas0

Prices have gone up across the board. You will pay more than you have for your current fix. You need to use the annual consumption figures on the comparison sites to find the suppliers where the price increase will be the least. Good luck and don't go variable rate as prices are only going up!0

To answer your original question, the answer is ‘supply versus demand’. The supply of oil has fallen which has resulted in an increase to the cost of gas. Gas is being used to generate electricity as a number of nuclear reactors are offline for maintenance. There hasn’t been much wind so renewable energy is down.Granny_98 said:What's happened, my 12 month fix is about to finish Sept 6th £59 a month gas & elec - same company to renew a 12 month fix a week ago was £79 today it's £81 - I can't get anything cheaper - what's happened to go up this much? Those overestimates Elec 140 kWh £21; gas 62 Kwh £2 (total £2 a month - insignificant)
Put your estimates into comparison sites SEPARATELY and let us know what results you get.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
energy has shot up this year
I have a deal coming to an end in October so starting to look around - for the same usage current deal works out at 1800/yr and they (Eon) are quoting 2300 next time! I don't think the others I had a quick look at were much different. I can understand some pressure on unit prices, but why are standing charges also up by 40% (gas) to 80% (elec)?? 0
